Tragedy hits UGA Greek community

Four young women have died in Athens after a car crash last night. The driver is in critical condition. Some of the women were sisters of Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, and Delta Delta Delta. Prayers to the families and university community.

Just heard about this on FB. My sincere sympathy to all involved, especially the biological and greek families.

I was wondering if they were involved in the Greek system. So sad. :'(

This was just posted on our HQ facebook page. So sad. Thoughts to everyone in our Beta Sigma chapter, as well as the others and their families and friends.

"The entire Alpha Chi Omega family mourns the tragic loss of our Beta Sigma sisters Kayla Canedo and Christina Semeria. Our hearts also go out to the friends and families of the other students lost in this terrible accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with our Beta Sigma chapter, and the entire University of Georgia community.

Alpha Chi Omega is working closely with the university and chapter leaders to support the chapter through this unexpected tragedy. Please allow the women of Beta Sigma privacy and time to grieve during this difficult time."

My daughter (remember Ballerina?) graduated from and works for UGa. She reports that the mood there is very somber, even among people who didn't know the girls. She says that there are 2 guards posted outside the AXO house to keep out the media--they were hounding them.

Were all five Panhellenic ladies? Just curious. From what I can gather, two are A Chi O, one tri-Delt and another Pi Beta Phi.

Several of the young ladies in the Sigma Gamma chapter of AOII were friends with Halle Scott. I know she was the Tri-Delt. It's been all over my FB feed today. How sad.

It appears that the driver might have been associated with AXO at some point, but she was not a current member. They were all active in Young Life.

Such a tragedy. I cannot imagine the loss.
