Foreign Lang Immersion Programs

Has anyone done these outside of the university study aboard sphere? I am looking into doing a Spanish immersion program -- preferably in Spain-- this summer.

I talked to a rep at Berlitz, but it looks like it is all pvt. instruction overseas-- I would like to do a group program for a couple of weeks or a month. Any ideas? Thanks!

Most of the good 'group' instruction that I've heard about is in Mexico. Lots of good stories from friends who were in Cuernavaca and San Miguel de Allende.

I don't know much about immersion in Spain, but I've heard that a lot of it is private if you're not in school anymore. Apparently some of the East Coast schools (Middlebury, Colgate, and Colby off the top of my head if memory serves me correctly) do summer programs out there...but I'm sorry to say I don't know how good they are or if they're open to people who aren't at school there.

Caught up with an old friend yesterday who did one called Don Quijote. They have programs in Latin America and Spain. He had a really good time in Madrid a few years ago with this program. It's not just for college students-- I am checking it out. If anyone else has suggestions, please post!

One of my good friends from college was planning on going for an immersion study for a semester in Madrid and Sevilla, Spain - and she liked it so much, she ended up staying for almost 3 years.

I actually did a total immerstion class here in the US for Spanish, at the University of Maryland. It was a 40-hour a week class in which we were only allowed to use Spanish and the profs would only speak to us in Spanish. It was wonderful, even if we didn't get to go anywhere fun
