Yup, that seems really weird, since they were founded in 1913... The only way it would make sense to me is if they were the first chapter established on that campus. As for the lion, I know each AST chapter chooses their own local mascot, so maybe PSS does the same thing. Still, it's really weird. It would be even more awkward if there was an ADPi chapter on campus.

One reason why I've never been a fan of "first" on t-shirts, publicity, etc., is because it can be interpreted so many ways - first women's fraternity? First greek-letter society? First women's literary/social society? My favorite - FIRST SORORITY?! Or first on campus? First in NPC?

Too many ways to interpret it - and ultimately of course, what's more impressive is not when you started, but what you've become. All of us in the NPC can be proud of where our groups are now!

I assume that is what their "first" refers to. If that was common knowledge in Greekdom, there would be no question (and maybe less offense) about the "first." For instance, in the NPHC when we see "first" it is usually "phirst" and in reference to Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha. There are other firsts across the NPHC but that "first" is understood to be about their founding.

I think the issue is that the phrase "First. Finest. Forever." is officially used by Alpha Delta Pi.

As Jill1228 stated, they were the first NPC on the SFSU campus which is what the "first" refers to. The lion is their local mascot. They've had it since they chartered on the campus. I asked them.

I assumed that, but...

Exactly. I would have a problem if another group put "Voices Strong, Hearts United" on their shirts.

*Raises hand!*

Maybe they had the shirts in some discount store, and changed the letters? Otherwise, it's just creepy!

I'm on board with it just being not right. My guess is that if there isn't a chapter of ADPi on campus most of those Phi Sig Sigs don't even realize their faux pas. But, someone had to know. Not cool at all.

Did you sing "loyal...forever...Alpha to thee." in your head, too?
