When I read the article again it doesn't seem that the money was missed at all. They had the woman on a five year plan to repay the money, so they knew about it. They were covering it up.

Yes, it's obvious that they found out and tried to avoid making the information public.
I doubt that the entire exec board was aware of what the president was doing the whole time, though. Their financial officers had to be involved and must've helped cover it up for as long as they could. I would like to think that if the entire board noticed a few years ago, they would've nipped it in the bud right then.

It's not that I know so much. You just know very little.
You mean my comment that some of their chapters have houses? It's true. If you want a listing, get it yourself. You're a funny guy. lol

I mean your reference to their organization owning houses, not local chapters owning houses.
You're a funny guy.

This is what I actually said, scholar.

Some of their chapters do have houses. And they own their international headquarters in DC.

"What makes you think their organization doesn't own any real estate?" in response to a thread about their IHQ and a remark by me on their IHQ.

Denial is not a river in Africa. lol
It's hilarious that you're backtracking. Just put some tartar sauce on that foot that's lodged in your mouth. Maybe it'll go down easier.

To My Knowledge.
Houses of LXA Chapters are owned by Alum., House Corporations of said Chapters.
But, there are exceptions to this as it is by States Laws easier, to keep Chapters and Nationals out of Legal Manuveres in case of Risk Management.
My New House is financed by An Alum and Our Equaity is the Property that it is being built on.
LXA Has a Seperate Group that is called LCAP that has taken over Propertys to Rerent or even sell.
But if many of You dont actually realize, Most Nationals are cash poor. Expenses are extreme if You have any kind of Chapter Consultants or Office Staff.
Colonizing a New Chapter without a New House is @ $7,000-$8,000 Minimum.
If You try to put a new House in the Picture is out of the Square of going there.
And people think We just party and not run a Major Business.
I can not judge another GLO until all of the Facts are Presented.
It is like any other Group, there is the chance that someone has misused moneys.

Just wondering, shouldn't be there a yearly audit done by an independent firm?

I think that would depend on if their governing documents required it, right?

how horribly devastating this must be for the sisters! to know you put your trust into someone... oh man, my heart goes out to them.
it's good that benedict college is investigating, too.

There really should be. We always had an accountant on our alum board, who would work with the VP-Finance every quarter to make sure everything lined up, and this was just a u-grad chapter. If it's not in the governing documents of an international organization, something is terribly amiss.
This is heartbreaking stuff, though.

That's what I was thinking. It's never a good thing to have your hard-earned money embezzled by anyone, but it's especially painful to feel betrayed by people you have a bond of friendship and fellowship with.
A couple of officers of a student group at my alma mater embezzled $100,000 from the group a few years ago...that's not even a group with the kind of bonds an NPHC sorority has, but even so, people felt truly hurt and betrayed by that event. Many of us were pretty disgusted that the embezzlers pleaded guilty and avoided a single day in jail.

Zeta will move on from this. Now as we all move on, here's a question for thought. Will we now do credit and background checks on people wanting to lead our orgs. I work for the FSU Foundation and we have to go through both a credit check and background screening.
