Legacy on Pref Night

I know SDT has a policy that if a legacy is invited back to Pref night she must be on our A list. I know we are not the only ones that have this policy....what other sororities have it?

AST also has this policy, though it doesn't specifiy where. Bottom line, if you don't want her as a sister, don't inviter her to pref.

legacy

ztas policy is that if a legacy is invited to prefs, she may appear in any order on the first bid list, or at the top of the 2nd list

Maybe it's just me...

but aren't legacy "acceptance" things a part of membership selection , and should therefore not be discussed openly?

I'm pretty sure some ADPis have discussed our legacy policy on here before, but that's just how I feel on it

That's why I haven't commented on DG's policy

Actually she has to be placed within our first bid list

FROM THE ALPHA SIGMA TAU WEBSITE:
Alpha Sigma Tau does not promise membership to a legacy. She and the chapter each maintain their right of choice. Membership selection remains the responsibility and right of each collegiate chapter. However, a legacy is afforded certain considerations during recruitment. Each legacy should be invited back to the first invitation recruitment party, and each chapter members is obligated to make every effort to get to know her. If a legacy does not of through recruitment, the chapter is encouraged to make a personal visit to get to know her. If the legacy attends the preference party, she must be placed within the chapter's first bid list. Any chapter not at total should extend a bid to any legacy participating in recruitment who demonstrates she embellishes the standards and ideal of the Sorority.

Ditto on this. I deleted my post just b/c I don't think reference should be made to "A & B lists" on public forums. Too much information for the PNM's.

I guess it depends on your organization. AOII's legacy policy is on the public side of our website for anyone to see. It is also discussed openly in our magazine.

I'm not sure about bids... I do know that we have to invite them to at least 2 rounds of invitational parties. Actually it was kinda funny this year because we were was a girl who thought she was a legacy... turns out she got confused because my chapter is the "delta gamma" chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma.... she was a DG legacy, and we don't have a DG chapter. She is now one of our new members. (we found out soon enough she wasn't a leagacy not to extend her leagcy courtesey, but we liked her, so we extended her a bid and she accepted ! )

The only reason why Iaskedis because this conversasion came up between a few of my sisters and the sisters of one of the other nationals, who claimed they don't have any policy on this and as far as I awsaware. most if not all nationals have some policy on if a legacy is invited back to pref night. Sorry if anyone felt this was to much info...

From DG's site:

Delta Gamma legacies represent a strong link to our heritage as a Fraternity. A Delta Gamma legacy is described as the daughter, sister or granddaughter of a Delta Gamma member. A legacy, for whom a Sponsor Form has been obtained, and who meets the five points of the membership star and the chapter’s membership goals, should be given special consideration as stated in the chapter standing rules.

And that's all I'm saying

From Sigma Kappa's website:

Sigma Kappa Legacy Policy
Who is a legacy?
It is the belief of Sigma Kappa Sorority that our legacies are extremely important to the success of our Sorority. When the chapter is determining whom to pledge, the chapter shall give careful consideration to the following women:

• Sisters/step-sisters
• Daughters/step-daughters
• Granddaughters/step-granddaughters
• Nieces/step-nieces

A legacy is of great importance to Sigma Kappa for the following reasons:
• She possesses built-in knowledge about sorority life and a basic acceptance of membership principles.
• A legacy can influence other potential members because of her knowledge.
• Ongoing support of Sigma Kappa family and Sigma Kappa friends is guaranteed.
• Outstanding qualities are often part of her heritage.

While we believe all legacies are to be given special consideration, it is necessary to be even more careful in our consideration of those specifically listed above.

If you fall into the legacy policy of Sigma Kappa, please have a Recruitment Introduction Form filled out for you and sent to the Sigma Kappa chapter on the campus on which you will be recruiting.

And like AUDeltaGam, that's all I'm saying too. Discretion is key.
