AI Question
Hi everyone,
So I'm posting here because I'm specifically wondering how AI works for Kappa. I'm looking into it, and I've been able to find info about it for most other organizations, but all the info I've found for Kappa is old, so I don't know how accurate it is. I'm hoping to start grad school in the fall, so that's another avenue I'm looking to explore.
Anyway, thanks for any help you can offer, I appreciate any info.

Please keep in mind that for many NPC groups, the group approaches you, not you approaching it. If you read the threads, it is an honor bestowed rather than a second bite at the proverbial apple. It may not be your intention, but your post (absent further information) comes across a bit like windowshopping at the mall after payday.

You probably won't get many answers about AI here. Especially for one specific group. AI generally isn't something sought out. Most (not all, but the vast majority) alumnae initiates have very strong ties to a group previously and are approached about AI rather than the interested party approaching the organization.
Good Luck

Why do you want to AI with any sorority?

Kappa does not offer AI, but thanks for appropriating one of our symbols for your user name.

Not to my knowledge, which only dates a couple of decades. Although we will initiate alumnae of locals that are absorbed as colonies. It's a very contentious issue for many of my sisters both pro and con. I see both sides of the issue, so I keep my mouth shut in general when it's being discussed. Also, we can pledge graduate students, but I don't think I've ever heard of a grad student pledging.
So, I guess my answer should have been more thorough, but if you don't fall into one of those categories, you are out of luck. I just got irritated by the OP's user name.

Oh, I completely understand. I'm just curious as to what "research" the OP has done, because it seems to me she "found" info that essentially doesn't exist. Either that, or she misinterpreted information regarding what you've described above.

It could be that she found info saying Kappa doesn't do it, and is hoping that has changed.

If this isn't too nebby - will you guys initiate, say, the founding sisters of a 10 year old local that became a chapter? Or is it just the girls who are collegiate members at the time that can be initiated?

I think it's any alumnae of a local; it doesn't matter how long ago they were involved. I know we have an advisor at a chapter that we chartered from a local in the early/mid 90s. She was active with the local in the 70s and initiated when we chartered.

Sorry, but my username actually has nothing to do with owls being one of the symbols of the sorority... last I checked, they're related to a lot more than just Kappa... but hey, thanks for jumping to conclusions and getting pissed about it.

I don't personally have any issue with someone wanting to AI but its just strange the approach that was taken. The OP would have been better served pursuing the other posts here to perhaps get some insight.

1. Although I am aware that it is a Kappa symbol, that's not why it was chosen. Like, nothing to do with it. Seriously.
2. I'm not focused solely on Kappa, Kappa was just the only one I couldn't find information about, so I thought I'd ask. Other sororities that I looked at had the information plainly available on their websites, so I didn't need to ask anyone about them.
3. I didn't have the opportunity to go greek in undergrad. It just isn't something available to everyone, although I really wish that it had been available to me.

Do you mean that you could not join a sorority as an undergrad because of financial reasons? If so, that does not mean that membership was "not available you." Not being able to afford something is completely different.

To your first point, I said that I was irritated by your username, not pissed off. If I had been pissed off, I would have said something along the lines of "Kappa does not do AI, but thanks for appropriating one of our symbols in your username, you presumptuous twit." But I didn't say that.
I do know that Kappa does not reserve the rights to all things owl. We have to share with our Panhellenic sisters of Chi Omega and Mother Nature.
Perhaps a better way for you to broached your question would have been to have chosen a username free of owls, lions, pandas, anchors, angels, kites, arrows, penguins, giraffes, etc. (in other words, generic) and then said something like this:
Hi! I'm generic username. I was unable to pursue sorority membership while I was an undergraduate. Consequently, I am now interested in AI. During the course of my research, I have found information about AI for many sororities, but I have not been successful in finding out if this is an option for Kappa Kappa Gamma. Does Kappa allow AI? Thanks for your help!
Love,
Generic username
Kappa has had her fair share of weirdos and stalkers, so your post set off an alarm with me.
Good luck in your pursuit of AI!
