Fraternity Recruitment Ideas/Advice

Hello! I'm a sweetheart of a fraternity on campus and they recently asked for suggestions/ideas about how they could improve recruitment.

It's a small campus with only two fraternities. Both fraternities have right around 30 men.

Is there any advice or suggestions you gentlemen have for this chapter? I'd love to give them your opinions.

Well, what are they doing now? Also, are they Regional/National/International or are they local fraternities?

Much more active summer recruitment would probably get things going.

No offense intended to you, but maybe they could come on here and ask for themselves? If they are not motivated enough to investigate this themselves, I doubt if you will be able to motivate them to change or improve.

^ Sometimes the obvious eludes me.... actually, often the obvious eludes me. What she said.

A sweetheart of a chapter really is in no position to be offering operations advise to another entity. At the end of the day, it's their rush.

If they ask you, that's when it's okay to butt in.

Sounds like they're asking her in some way. Personally, I would love it if our sweetheart came to us with ideas from recruitment. An outsider's perspective never hurts!

Sorority and fraternity recruitment are way too different. Most successful sororities are able to rely on total commitment to the formal process to keep them at quota. Most fraternities will have the best luck recruiting members outside of the formal process and leaving that formal process to ensure bonus members.

Recruitment isn't really that complicated. It's about making friends and meeting people (unless you're one of those massive SEC chapters which selects 100 applicants out of a thick stack of potentials).

I was going to ask the same thing FSUZeta and Kevin asked, but I didn't know if this was standard for Sweethearts.

Only thing I can see a sweetheart offering is names of people she thinks would be interested or quality guys. And possibly proposing the idea to those guys as well.

To clear a few things up: I was asked by the chapter president & recruitment chair for any suggestions I had for recruitment.

The reason they asked was because I'm the Recruitment Counselor chair, and I'm behind the scenes of the mens' recruitment counselor team as well as the women's. The Pi Chis also help get men signed up for recruitment. I work closely with our Head of Greek Life so I do have experience in helping men with recruitment.

I don't think they know of this website and I was just curious. Sorry if I upset or confused anyone.

Again, though, it's hard to give advice if we don't know what we're working with. What is their current recruitment strategy?

Their current recruitment strategy is...pretty lax. It's very "hey so, let's chill"

I don't think that works to the best if you don't already have an idea of who the person is beforehand. Personally, we usually know the people we are hanging out with and want to rush already. This can be through facebook groups, high school lists, etc. (for us we also use Hillel and BBYO as well, but it will most likely not help you). Then once you get a good feel for this person, you can invite them out to lunch with another brother. Pizza works fine, and pay for it too. It's just a slice of pizza. Then after that you can invite them out to Summer events, such as BBQs or House events. You should be doing this with several people so that it's not just that once PNM at the BBQ or House event with the brothers.

That's what you can tell them.
