I agree! My time as an active prepared me to make small talk for hours with people I don't know. It amazes me how people find one person to talk to in a room and never move. By then end of a party, I have met everyone and can probably tell you three things about them!

I have told more first time recruiters that this may be the biggest benefit of being a sorority woman! One of the least active chapter sisters I have has often said that it's one reason that she's crushed that her daughter didn't go greek!

I want to add: you know that you're a sorority member when you have certain timeless outfits that will fit recruitment (even though you're an alumna), when you have ziplock bags of aluminum poptops on your refrigerator for Ronald McDonald House (or whatever for your philanthropy) (I've been told that my refrigerator looks like a recycling bin), or any pets being named after your mascot.

You know you're a sorority member when you are listening to the State of the Union address and multitasking, and as your right hand is on your mouse, when Obama says something you like (like, say, gays shouldn't be forbidden from serving in the military), you snap instead of applauding.

(This just happened. My husband also snapped. *scratches head*)

For the advisors/volunteers:

When you can read back the returning PNMs list, pair off sisters/PNMs, hand out nametags, cut out paper sailboats, and eat dinner for the evening simultaneously--in 20 minutes.

Agreed! If there's one thing being in a sorority has taught me, it's how to multitask!!

You know you're a sorority girl when you tell your friends that you think not having heard from your top-choice grad school yet means you're not "on their first bid list". Ha!

Your daughter starts getting all the propaganda from colleges all over the country during her junior year of high school and your first thought as you see each one is "We have a chapter there" or "We don't have a chapter there".

I think that now about colleges as I apply for jobs. I'm sure I'll be that way too if I ever have a daughter

Alumnae volunteers/advisors:

When you wake up to no new sorority-related emails in your inbox, and kind of freak out and think they're something wrong with gmail.
