We had a girl go through formal rush who was a legacy of the other sorority on campus so, obviously, she had no interest in anything we had to say...
well, it being rush n' all, we tried our best with EVERY pnm including this young lady, but I swear, she would give you a look that could freeze your soul. That and she had nails like a Ming Emperor.
Well, she obviously didnt go PiPhi, but guess who didnt accept her? The other sorority! and she was a legacy! OOOOOH, DENIED!
She went informally and finally got into her group of choice, but she is a real piece of work!

you know, it's funny the people you meet during rush. It's like they lay dormant all year and then....... and THEN...........

Not sure if this is really a weird rush story but....

My only reservation about joining ASA was that one of the ASAs, while startlingly attractive, was widely acknowledged (by everyone else in the greek system) to be crazy and a pathological liar. She claimed to be "dating" two very famous baseball players, which of course was ridiculous. Even though a lot of the rushees gossiped about it, I decided other things were more important. One of my Tri-Delt friends tried to talk me out of accepting my bid, saying "I can't believe you'd want to be in the same sorority as that nutcase." ASA definitely lost a lot of good girls because of her.

After I joined, she tried to get some of the new pledges to drive from Penn State out to Kansas City with her to visit "boyfriend" #1 (a KC Royal who is now in the Hall of Fame). None of us sophomores would go, knowing it was a wild goosechase, but two of the freshmen went. As it turned out, they ended up staying at Famous Baseball Player #1's house. And later on, some of the girls went with her to New York, and went out to the bars with Famous Baseball Player #2 (a NY Yankee).

So she wasn't crazy, but she was a baseball groupie. Both guys were single, but still --- what were we going to say to people? "Oh, XX isn't nuts at all, she's just kind of a slut who likes to follow baseball players around." Which explained why none of them criticized her themselves, but they couldn't really defend her either. We just tried to be sure she was off visiting one of her "boyfriends" during rush, so as to keep her from telling the rushees about her hobby.

I'VE DONE THIS! But she picked up her cellphone and started talking on it while at a rush party and complaining about how she was at a stupid sorority - and I had my rush crush (now lil) with me and I soooo wanted to impress her. The bitch on the cellphone got left on a piano bench in the corner by herself.

She got on her CELL PHONE?! That's great. Once as a rush party was ending I was escorting the girl I was talking to to the door, we weren't even to the door yet before she had her phone out and started making a call...little did she know we hadn't done our sing out yet. I for one sang at the top of my lungs, I hope whoever she was talking to got a good earful of singing sorority girls (and trust me, we're not the best of singers!!!)

I now have to add mines. This happened during informal this spring. We had a PNM who flat out refused to come to one of the mandatory events for the sorority b/c it was Big Sis Revealing. Her excuse? She had an eye infection. This would be alright if not for the fact that she kept telling us she had a strange medical condition & even gave us the medical term for what she had. We all thought she must be seriously ill until someone looked up what her illness was. She had pink-eye.

Also this spring, I had a gal come up to me & told me to remember her face well b/c she was going to be rushing as a sophomore but already had her heart set on going XYZ so for me not to bother trying to be nice or trying to get her to change her mind. I just stared at her & when she was done, I told her that I would definitely remember her this coming fall. The best part is that I later found out she went to ladies from the other houses on campus & told them the same thing. She even went to the house of her dreams one day to introduce herself. A friend of mine from that house said she was kind of creepy & while they are going to give her a fair shot this fall, she already made a bad first impression.

While I definitly agree that it was quite strange for her to give you the fancy medical name for pink eye, it is highly contangious and you would definitly not want her at that event because you and your sisters would more than likely have ended up with it too.
So I don't really see why it was a problem that she refused to come to an event.

During the first round of formal rush way back when, we were at the last house of the afternoon before dinner break. The party was coming to an end when all of a sudden, the tornado sirens started going off! There are very strict rules for how long the parties can go on and how much contact sisters could have with PNMs, so it wasn't like we could just keep talking, but at the same time they weren't about to kick us outside when there was a tornado warning! We (the PNMs) ended up sitting in one part of the basement, and they put The Little Mermaid on for us to watch, while the sisters went to another part. Once the all-clear sounded we left as normal. I think they pushed the start of the next group of parties back about half an hour or so that day.

This sounds like a girl at my school! She went up to the XYZ dinner table and said, "I really can't wait to be an XYZ." Then she went up to the ABC table and said, "I really want to be an ABC!" And she kept going around to all of the tables. Needless to say, the sisters talk to each other...so we'll just have to see how things go in September.

I am definitely glad she didn't come but I don't understand why she couldn't have just told us the truth. Oh well. She did go through initiation so I have high hopes that she'll turn out to be an awesome sister. I didn't get to spend too much time with her unfortunately b/c of opposite class schedules.

She DID tell you the truth, she just used a term you weren't familiar with.

She might not have wanted to broadcast the fact that she has pinkeye... in some areas of the country it's associated with being "trashy" and unclean.

I'm with HotDamn. When I was tutoring in a local elementary school two years ago, one of my students gave me conjunctivitis (pinkeye). Everybody treated me like a leper as soon as they found out. I pretty much just stayed in my dorm room for two days 'til the antibiotics had kicked in. A week later it came back, and by that time I was home for Christmas, working at Old Navy. My boss told me not to come in, even though it was Christmas Eve and they were short-handed, because he knew that if I did, the entire store and all the customers would pick it up.

I completely agree, this girl DID telll you the truth. Maybe she went to the doctor, and the doctor told her she had conjunctivitis without mentioning that it is commonly called pink-eye. Also, this is a perfectly legitimate reason not to come to a mandatory event. When you have pink-eye, your eyes are not only red, they are really swollen, pusing and/or crusty, and itch like hell. Add to that the EXTREMELY contagious nature of pink-eye, and you realize its a better idea to stay home and wait for it to pass. I think it was actually more considerate to stay home and avoid spreading it. At my old job, my boss and a co-worker came to work with pink eye, and I was VERY annoyed and always worried that I would catch it.

One of my sorority sisters got pink eye right before one of our formals, and in the pictures, all of us have digusting eyes which are swollen shut. Not attractive.

It's bad if someone at a party has pinkeye, but someone using the same bathroom, sink and shower hardware is even worse!

I'm voting with those who say that telling you she had conjunctivitis was just fine - glad it didn't stop her from getting a bid!
