Just for kicks, here are a couple of pictures of a Psi U badge.
Standard Badge that we all have.

Pearls in this one. I have never seen one like it in real life but this fratpin site finds them quite a bit. I personally think it is gaudy, but I also think this might be a sweetheart pin and not an actual badge.

Phi Mu Badge

This is what MY badge looks like....

I do LOVE this badge, though...

As a Penn State Alum, I've contemplated getting this badge...

There aren't many NPCs listed, actually.

There actually aren't any NPCs listed because it is a work in progress on NIC fraternity badges. CutiePie2000 listed NPC badge design relative to founding location on page seven of this thread.

If anyone is interested, I plan on further refining the categories and inserting the founding state for each fraternity to examine trends in badge design relative to location similar to CutiePie200's post. I will also try to include NICs that joined after my diagram was published (which is quite a few of them).

Alpha Gamma Delta is. And I thought I saw Alpha Epsilon Phi, but it was actually Alpha Epsilon Pi.

Ahhh, sorry, that should read Alpha Delta Gamma. I'll go fix it now.

Here is my own AOII badge. It is my great grandmother's from 1924. I had a detachable badge holder made so I can wear it either way. AOII allows alumnae to do this. My own badge from when I was initiated is lost. I lost it back in college. I have been trying to win an all-chased badge on Ebay for about 2 years. AOII does not offer the all-chased anymore and I absolutely love it!

All chased AOII badge...no longer offered.

Some other pretty AOII badges. (They are all older and most of these styles are no longer offered)

From Fratpin a long time ago

From Ebay a long time ago

From Ebay a long time ago

(I am pretty sure our Executive Board can order an all-diamond badge still)

I've always loved the AOII badges. I agree that the chased ones are nice - this one here is pretty!

Finally found a picture

Here's a vintage Theta badge, from the KAO website:

don't know what the description would be for the border - it looks like a rope? I don't know that it's "chased", esp. when I look at the AOPi badges that are chased (gorgeous) and some of the other badges as well.

My dream is to someday stumble across one in an out of the way antique store, or at an estate sale. It's a dream, okay? I can hope...

The recent badge photos have been stunning.

I'd call that chased, and I don't think your dream is that far fetched...how do you think those badges make their way to ebay anyway?

Theta Phi initiates are all required to have the same badge. I like that there isn't any variance, aside from the chapter president's badge, grand council badge and the national president's badge. Of course over time our badge has evolved, but for the most part it has maintained the same look.

From our national website:

The badge is a gold letter "Theta" set with pearls, superimposed upon plain gold letters "Phi" and "Alpha." The badge of Theta Phi Alpha is worn only by initiated members and is at once a means of identification and a source of pride to the wearer. The Fraternity badge is to be worn over the heart and is always placed above any other piece of jewelry.

The right to wear the Theta Phi Alpha badge is bestowed on each member at Initiation and each member is required to purchase a badge to wear throughout her life. However, should she in any way forfeit the right to wear the badge, it must be relinquished to the Fraternity's archives.

Upon death of a member, her badge is either sent to the Fraternity's archives or buried with her. Each member has the responsibility to see that her family knows of these alternatives, and should arrange to have one or the other followed at her death.

Thanks for posting the badges ALS. There are so many options, but those are some of my favorite!

I wish our badge came a little larger like some groups who have that option. I think the quatrefoil is such an amazing shape that it should have a lot more space to displays its glory! lol.

I have been lucky enough to have seen the President's Badge, which is real gold and diamond, in person and I'd love something (while not as large) that allows the shape not to appear so "squat".

Antique Theta Badge

While on the topic of sharing some of the more unique or older badges, this is one of the most beautiful Theta badges I've seen- even if only online (darn ebay). It's from 1944 with opals, and the points are more elongated than the standard badge of today.
