Does anyone know whether SIU-E will be halting their expansion? If I recall correctly the presentations were in late winter with no announcement yet made. This Fall their new member quota number is way down (62 LY vs 42 TY according to IPs list).

ETA: I suppose there may be a rumor on campus as to which group was chosen for expansion, which might have affected the quota number?

At Grand Valley State University, the Alpha Epsilon Pi colony was just recognized by the IFC.

Pi Kappa Phi reps are on campus recruiting for their upcoming colony right now.

Meanwhile, in NPC news, the GVSU Panhellenic extension committee is reviewing the materials submitted by interested sororities, and will be inviting groups for presentations this fall.

Is it bad of me to read about fraternities closing due to bad behavior and wondering if that means there's room for another sorority to come on campus at a school where housing is the biggest obstacle to growth?

Yes. Schadenfreude is not a good foundation upon which to build.

And yes, I know it happens all the time, but I would hope that the incoming group that benefits is respectful and thankful to the alumni of the closed chapter, instead of just "whoo hoo!! We gotta house!"

ETA: Along those lines, one of my fb friends posted a pic of a banner at her (very very small) school's Greek life office that said "gone but not forgotten" & a list of the closed fraternity and sorority chapters (one of which was hers). Someone posted in response "I wish they wpuld all close, fraternities are good for nothing but rape and alcoholism" (paraphrasing). I had to walk away from that one because I knew I was going to call her every name in the book - and she still wouldn't realize why what she said was so hideous.

I don't think my sister, Dubai, is saying she's happy that a chapter closed (I don't know her personally, but I doubt she's cold hearted), but it is true about campuses where housing is an issue. It turns out that at Texas Tech, we took Kappa Sig's old lodge. A friend was part of helping with the transition.
