Very nice. We've used the whole TJ Sullivan article in a Zeta Sigma slideshow. Love it. Love how it applies to all Greeks.

Okay, I'll be Donnie Downer. It's not nearly as bad as the video discussed in this thread, but for the same reasons I gave in that thread, I'm still not a fan of videos like this. For that matter, I'm not a fan of Sullivan's essay or the whole "You're Always Wearing Your Letters" mantra. It just seems like a big, preachy way of saying "Don't embarrass us." Not a positive message to my mind.

Sometimes.... some chapters need that reminder though. It's better than someone standing that front of a chapter meeting and screaming at people over things. I get more than a "don't embarrass us" message from it. I get a unification message. And for chapters who have had behavior issues.... it helps. (We got very good positive feedback from utilizing this.)

Like I said, I don't think this one is as bad as, say, the video in the other thread. And I did really like the bit at the end -- "If we're doing 'sorority' right, we'll make you a better woman"/"If you're doing everything right, we'll be a better organization."

I'm afraid, though, I don't get a unification message from it at all. And when they say things like "when you finally marry that special person . . . you represent us," any credibility that might otherwise have been there is lost is in the ridiculous hyperbole.

If you've seen it help chapters, that's great. And sure, it's better than screaming at people. But personally, I just don't find it to be a positive or motivating message overall. Frankly, I think it's somewhat superficial.

I see both sides of the argument. I like the concept - a kinder, gentler way to say 'don't embarrass us'. Not that I have any problems actually saying 'don't embarrass us'!

At least this one actually mentioned things like cheating on a test. Too often, this is the mantra used for slut-shaming and drink-shaming. I know I thought way worse of a sorority when I saw, for example, a member being rude to a waitress in a restaurant, than I did when I saw her drinking too much.

ETA: This is another reason why I think we should get back to our creeds/mottos and what they are really saying, and bag the stupid mission statements.
