Thank you.
I didn't lose power, but many of my local friends have not been so fortunate. I would invite my local friends who have lost power but have been obeying COVID protocols to come in and at least take a shower, but the condo board has noped out on allowing guests beginning in March. (On the up side, this does mean my bitch MIL can't get in the building.)

You'd think of all places, NO would have some sort of super hardened power grid built to withstand all the weather y'all see.

I think a lot of the problem is you might be able to secure an electrical substation but when you have powerlines that are above ground, you are subject to all elements from weather to people hitting poles holding power lines.
In the city where I lived for 13 years, I only lost power once and that is because our lines were below ground. Just a mile away in an older section of the city, power lines were above ground and they ALWAYS lost power.
In coastal regions like NO, you are so close to sea level that you pretty much can't bury the lines.* You might be able to surround the substations with a Fort Knox-like fortress of concrete block, though.
*qualifying that I am no expert on a power grid.

Another broken bone. This time it's the left ulna. Not too bad, fortunately, unlike the last time (right radial fracture). BUT I use hand controls to drive, and yep - the left hand is really important. Like, controlling the brake and accelerator important. On to plan B; thankful for Uber and friends! This should be a short recovery, no need for another operation, it's not a horrible fracture needing surgery (THANK GOD).
Takeaway: younguns, take your calcium and vitamin d and do lots of weight bearing. Too late for me. Oh well. I burned my ass and now I'm sitting on the blister.
Onward!

High winds keep knocking out the cable and lifting the neighbor's toys into my back yard. My backyard looks like a daycare playground.

I finally have a working cooktop again. My house was built 2 years ago and the stupid GE inset cooktop (separate wall ovens) died. We weren't sure if it was a breaker issue, or the stove, so we started our investigation by having the electrician who did the wiring come out. He was SURE it was the stove. Because of COVID they are behind on stove manufacturing. Six weeks later the stove arrives. Husband hooks it up--still flipping the breaker (but no loud boom that the GE was making! I've had nothing but issues with GE, including a faulty dishwasher with the wires burning. UGH!). The problem was the stupid breaker. I didn't need to spend $900 on a new cooktop. Except my husband tore apart the GE looking for a short... so it's in pieces. So the breaker is now replaced and I no longer have to cook outside on the camp stove. Which is a good thing considering that the first day of using the camp stove I touched the handle of the pan and got 2nd degree burns on 1/4 of my hand. When they look at you at the ER and say "we're going to give you a shot of morphine," you know you aren't in for a fun ride.

Praise the Lord! Hoping for a better 2021.
So, New Orleans has cancelled all Mardi Gras parades for 2021. I can't say I'm surprised - it's impossible to practice social distancing when you're going for a coconut or a shoe or another prized throw (or even just beads). But still, DAYUM. Mardi Gras in New Orleans without parades? It's happened before, but it's just not going to feel right. I guess my husband and I will have to console ourselves with a king cake and quarantinis.

Considering that is where the NOLA COVID outbreak began in early March, it was a smart decision.

Ditto. We’ve finally got a working Trump vaccine (the ballot), now we just need a working COVID vaccine. Then both deadly viruses will be gone.
