So no one recited "Olive C. Jones" before 1988?
Do we have proof of that or are we just In Search of a place to attribute the "C" to?
The "C" has always been debated as to what it stood for but I've never heard someone acting as though it was significant enough to debate whether it exists.

No it hasn't, because tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of Deltas did not know it existed.

I'm contextualizing this. Those of us who recited it with a "C" but were not told what it stood for, have been lightheartedly debating this for years. And there are (perhaps tens of) thousands of us who that applies to.
How many members are we supposed to have, again? Just making sure neither of us is exaggerating for no reason.

I would agree that tens of thousands have been initiated since 1988.

Maybe its like Homer J. Simpson.
J is short for Jay.
So the C would have to be Cee. Right?

Yes this is Necro-ing the thread.
However, I've been dealing with this *exact* issue on Wikipedia and this thread came up Greekchat came up as one of the hits.
In a powerpoint published by Delta Sigma Theta itself for the creation of both internal and external article publishing, the following was part of a worksheet answer. ( http://www.deltasigmatheta.org/membe...C_Workshop.ppt) page 48)
Based on other answers for the worksheet, the first line is what was in the worksheet that the person viewing this should determine is correct or not.
-Olive Claire Jones is one of the founders.
-Founder Jones chose to be known publicly as Olive Jones. So, that’s how her name should be written.
-The only time a person’s middle name, maiden name or initials should be used, is if that person goes by those names or initials.
Ex. Cynthia M. A. Butler-McIntyre or James Earl Jones
Not sure whether that means that the Claire is the *correct* middle name or not, but it certainly indicates that a number of sisters *think* it is.
