Calm down. To many of us someone in college, especially a freshman, is a kid. That's not because you're so young, but because we're . . . older.
But maybe we should fill you in on the inside remarks going on that prompted Sen's post. Many members of fraternities take offense -- sometimes
serious offense -- at use of the word "frat." It carries
Animal House-like and frat-boy connotations that many fraternity men prefer to avoid. All too often, when a question like yours has been asked, someone swoops in to lecture the "kid" with something along the lines of "first of all, don't call it a frat." All too often, this is followed by a crude and unneccesary analogy about what one wouldn't call one's country.
We were all just being pleased that no one had gone off on you that way.
