New Chi O House at Mizzou

I note that two PHC chapters will have centennials at Mizzou in 2013 -- Phi Mu and Chi Omega. I looked to see if their celebrations have any online presence yet -- Chi O does, with a link to news about a new house:

(A search to see if this had been posted didn't turn up anything, so I think it's new news!)

Does anyone know what all the grumblings are about in the comments- something about a men's fraternity at this campus by-passing zoning laws when building their house?

This was in the link.

At that meeting, Buckley spoke before the board of adjustment and mentioned a variance granted in December for a new house for the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, which is being built at College Avenue and Rosemary Lane.

The Beta house construction project caused controversy in recent months. City building inspectors failed to note that the architect had designed the house 7 feet too tall for the property's R-3 zoning. The error wasn't noticed until a frame for the house already had been constructed.

The situation resulted in a cash settlement paid by the architect to the East Campus Neighborhood Association to preclude legal action against the architect and the fraternity.

As a Chi O whose collegiate chapter hasn't had a house since 1944 and doesn't really have much of a hope of ever getting one...I am, at once, insanely jealous and insanely happy for the Mizzou chapter. Enjoy the house, ladies!

While the Chi O house is under construction -- since the old one has been demolished -- the chapter will live in the ATO house. Tri-Sigma has been living in the ATO house since their chapter was installed -- presumably their house (a brand-new structure, made possible by demolishing a couple of old 'regular' houses (those two-and three-story early 20th century houses that used to ring most college campuses)).

The ATO chapter is suspended. I haven't looked to see when they'll be allowed to come back, but surely they'll want to be back in their house. (Which will be much improved by all the remodeling that Tri Sigma did.)
