rushing as a 21 yr old fesh/soph?
At the moment I'm in the US Army serving in Afghanistan. I'll be home soon and will be attending URI the following Spring of my return, at which point I'll be 21. I don't know yet whether I'll be a freshman or sophmore (depending on how many of my online course credits will transfer) but I want to rush when I get there, get back some of the similar brotherhood I have here. My question is will I be looked at as too old to rush, will it come off as weird? I don't know much on Greek life or how certain things as such would be percieved. Thanks for any help guys, much appreciated.

Army,
Make use of the search function!
However, I will still be happy to answer your question. We have two brothers that served in Iraq together. One was 21 when he rushed and the other was 24. There shouldn't be any reason why you will be perceived as weird when trying to rush. In reality, age shouldn't be a paramount concern when it comes to rushing a fraternity, but some fraternities standards are different than others.
If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
Best of luck,
Magirt

Since you were in the army, age won't matter that much to most chapters.

My husband joined Pike after serving in the Army and had a very good experience. I say, go for it!

We have a 23 year-old Marine who pledge with my class in Fall of 09. He is one of our best members. 4.0 GPA and has his head on straight. He stands for everything a good Greek should be.
I think you should rush.. at my campus it wouldn't be seen as weird. Id anything it would give you a little extra boost with getting a bid.

Like they said, it varies school to school. At my university (fairly noncompetitive), my boyfriend (23) got a bid and pledged in the Spring of 09. They just joke about him being "grandpa".
