Kappa Sigma Houses

Sorry to crash... but I wanted to let everyone know that I've just finished a website with pictures of various Kappa Sigma houses. You can see it at http://kappasighouses.blogspot.com.

I'm working on pictures for houses of all the different IFC fraternities- you can see all of the ones I have completed at the main page, http://fraternityhousesindex.blogspot.com. I've also done all the panhellenic sororities (http://sororityhousesindex.blogspot.com), if you want to take a look at those. Enjoy

This is VERY cool.

I hope you will be able to add more photos, not only of the houses you do not yet have pictures of, but also additional photos of some of the houses for which you presently only have one or two photos.

I thought you might have moved on. If you have the time. please post on the expansionary activity thread the fall rush results at Cal State Chico, and how your chapter compares numbers-wise to the other fraternity chapters there. Plus have you heard anything about further expansion in CA or elsewhere?

How is it going brother? This is my last year in Chico so i have yet to move on. Fall Rush went great big numbers overall for everyone. Since Chico's reputation has suffered due to alot of prior incidents we can't rush First Time Freshman until Spring Rush. So our Spring rush is big. Usually Fraternities get around 3-9 guys. I haven't heard much from other houses only from a couple of friends in the top houses how their numbers went. Sigma Chi took an incredible 15 guys for Fall, followed by Kappa Sig 10, Theta Chi 9. I don't know how many pledges the other's have gotten yet, as soon as i know i will inform you.

Yet this is how we are compared to other Chapters

Sigma Chi- around 70 (with pledges)
Kappa Sigma (with pledges 63)
Theta Chi (around 50-60)
Sigma Pi (35-45)
Phi Kappa Tau (30-40)
Phi Delta Theta (25-35)
Sigma Nu (25-35)
Alpha Gamma Rho (20)
Delta Chi (20) they only got one pledge.

The greek system here changes dramatically every year. For example my first semester Fall 06 Beta Theta Pi, Theta Chi, and Delta Chi were top houses. Beta got the boot, Theta Chi suffered with grades, and Delta Chi was at the brink of collapse and had to reorganize. Really Sigma Chi, Sigma Pi and Kappa Sigma have turn the tables. Phi Kappa Tau used to be a top house around the early part of the decade but made a porno and booted a lot of guys out. So its a constant survival here. I would say Sigma Chi, Theta Chi, and then it would be us as the big 3. We just need to get better at sports. However Beta Theta Pi is supposed to come back this semester as a colony and Pi Kappa Alpha who has yet to have a chapter in CSU Chico has already started expansion here. Again this universities Greek system is very unpredictable so only time will tell where our order will stand. Hopefully it continues to be stronger and strives to be the unanimous top house.

As for expansion in CA UCSD is getting Chartered this weekend Saturday with 45 members as the biggest Fraternity on Campus( Ther chapter will be the P-Psi Chapter). Cal St. Northridge may also get chartered. UCLA has around 36 in its colony, UC-Davis around 30, UC Merced 35, UC Santa Cruz 28, and Cal State Monterey Bay has 41. That is the only news i know. I get updates everyone two weeks so as soon as i hear something i will be getting you the info.

Thanks for the informative response. Good to know that Kappa Sigma is more than holding its own at Cal State Chico! If Pike and Beta both come on campus, that could tighten every other chapter's numbers, as there are only so many guys who are interested in joining a fraternity.

Most of the numbers for the California colonies sound encouraging, although UCLA, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz will certainly have to grow if they are to recharter (UCLA, Davis) or charter (Santa Cruz).

Have you heard anything about expansion to University of the Pacific or a return to Cal Poly SLO?

Have you heard anything about any colonies outside California?

I have heard interest groups were supposed to start forming in UoP and Slo but not heard nothing since last spring regarding expansion in those two universities. I am also skeptical of Beta and Pike comming to campus as alot of the lower fraternities with low numbers will suffer after being in the verge of being gone. I believe Kappa Sigma came in at a great time as Beta got the boot. If any fraternity should start colonizing it should be Beta who has been here. As for other colony updates i have yet to hear of any new ones. if or when i do i will post them up.

You state in your Sept. 22 post that your chapter took 10 pledges this Fall. The Fraternity is stating on Twitter that it was [just] 9. Did you lose a pledge already, or is the Fraternity wrong?

sorry for the delay we ended up losing one of them, we got 15 in fall but we cut a couple and are down to 11. Those 11 guys are great. No one had a good rush spring only Theta Chi. Greek life in chico has hit a rocky road Sigma Chi, Delta Chi and AGR have left or been suspended. Yet we got Pi Kappa Alpha and next semester Alpha Sigma Phi. I would say we are in 2nd place right now. Pike is the biggest but they seem to have build alot of enemies already. Theta Chi still remains at the top. WE have lost chapters in SDSU and CAL- Berkeley by the way.
