What is the role of the "Divine Nine" in the black community?

Many people, both Greeks and non Greeks, feel that the D9 organizations have gotten away from their original intents and purposes, as far as socialism and activism, and believe that these groups contribute nothing to the advancement of the black community. What would you say to someone with these beliefs in defense of your NPHC organization? How is your organization and/Or chapter contributing to the betterment of blacks in 2017? Is there still a need for D9 orgs? *Disclaimer, this post is not meant to be offensive in anyway, these are actual comments made to me as an aspirant of a D9 organization*
