Exclamation Important to our Sisterhood

As Recruitment season is in high gear, I'd like to make a few comments, especially since some of these issues have come up in various private messages. I know that adpiucf agrees with me, as do a few others who wish to remain anonymous.

With every post that you make, you are representing Alpha Delta Pi. Not just you, nor your chapter, nor the other ADPi's on Greek Chat, but every Alpha Delta Pi who has worn the Diamond since 1851! We have a rich heritage which we should each feel honored to uphold. To that end, may I offer these strong suggestions:

1) Please remember that members of other GLOs visit this Forum. Posts should not contain ritual or other privileged information. If you have a question, pm another sister.

2) Please be polite! Bear in mind that something that you say from your lofty point at Chapter A could potentially destroy the Recruitment efforts of Chapter B!

3) Please check your signature. If there is anything that even ONE PERSON could find offensive, please consider changing it, even if it's just until Recruitment Season is over!

4) Flame wars really aren't very ladylike. There are ways of making your point without using offensive language or referring to someone's parentage. If you need help with this, I'd be happy to assist you.

5) Please be Panhellenic, but never forget that you're an ADPi! You may be crushed that someone cut or was cut by an ADPi chapter, but we all must trust the chapter's judgment. Congratulate the PNMs on their bids, console the ones who didn't get one, and encourage both snap bids and COB when a viable option. Let's not have an ADPi make ever mention of a "loser chapter" on any thread! We are above that type of ill-mannered behavior, and do NOT condone dirty rushing!

6) If you are teasing about something, please include a smilie! That's what they're there for - to make sure you don't offend someone with your "unique" sense of humor.

7) If you know of a chapter who did not reach Quota, and could use the support of the GreekChat sisters, please use Pride Online or our other Forums that are "Sisters Only"! Other chapters may still be involved in Recruitment, and our forum is read by many people who are NOT members of Alpha Delta Pi. We all want to help, but not to the detriment of other chapters!

This isn't meant to be a power trip, an attempt to oppose your freedom of expression, or a message that has not been impressed upon you before. It is the sworn duty of every Alpha Delta Pi to uphold the ideals of our organization, and I'd like to remind you to take moment and think twice before you post anything on Greek Chat, or anywhere. Please think, "Is what I am about to say potentially inflammatory to myself and my sorority? How will every Alpha Delta Pi be regarded if I post this as a representative of my sorority?" Please remember that at all times and in all ways, you represent Alpha Delta Pi, and your words and actions are a direct link back to every single member of our sorority. Please always remember to be an Alpha Delta Pi Lady.

Thank you!

Deleted Threads and Posts

Texas*princess and I get at least one request per week to delete a post or thread, or to close a thread. Most of the time, we try to explain to the petitioner(s) why the post or thread won't be deleted.

There are two MAJOR exceptions:

1) When ritual or policy is compromised. These posts are guaranteed to be removed ASAP!

2) When sisterhood is compromised by incessant bickering.

If there are any questions to this post, please re-read the Forum Guidelines. If you still have a question, please PM either texas*princess or myself, as we are ultimately responsible for what stays and what goes.

ps: For that matter, NEVER discuss ritual on the Internet, not even on PO! You never know who's could be hacking into the system.

Alpha Delta Pi Web Site Guidelines!

Found this on Pride Online:

Alpha Delta Pi's Web Site Guidelines

"Discretion should be used when creating an Alpha Delta Pi web site, keeping in mind that all content is a direct reflection upon Alpha Delta Pi. This is especially important when considering that web sites are accessible to people all over the world, not only to Alpha Delta Pi's. Therefore, all Alpha Delta Pi web sites must represent the international sorority, your particular group, and Greek life well. While appropriateness of content is the responsibility of each individual group, the Alpha Delta Pi Publications Board will monitor adherence to the following guidelines. For questions on these guidelines or appropriateness of content, please contact the Publications Board at info@alphadeltapi.com.

"Before posting Alpha Delta Pi history, facts, or other information, make sure that this information is correct. The ADP Handbook should be used as a reference. In addition, the correct terminology should always be used. Either the ADP Handbook or Chapter Operations Book should be consulted.

"All photographs should represent the collegiate chapter, alumnae association, or house corporation positively. They should not contain or suggest the use of alcohol (i.e., cups), paddles, or inappropriate behavior.

"The Alpha Delta Pi web site may not be used for religious, political, or commercial purposes.

"Use of profanity and/or derogatory language is not permitted.

"Public criticism of Alpha Delta Pi, its officers, Executive Office staff or members is not permitted.

"Registered trademarks of the sorority, the crest, the Alpha pin, the badge, as well as the name 'Alpha Delta Pi' and 'ADP', may only be used by members, collegiate chapters, alumnae associations, and house corporations. Any exceptions must be cleared through the Alpha Delta Pi Publications Board.

"Personal safety of members should be considered when posting information. Do not post specific information about location or time of events or meetings. Also, addresses, phone numbers, and photos of individual members should not be posted.

"The following disclaimer must be posted on all pages linked to the Alpha Delta Pi international site:
"Alpha Delta Pi Sorority recognizes the value and potential of personal publishing on the Internet, however, Alpha Delta Pi cannot accept responsibility for the content of linked pages. These pages do not in any way constitute official Alpha Delta Pi content. The views and opinions expressed are strictly those of the page authors, and comments on the contents of those pages should be directed to the page authors."

Think of ADPi as a shiny new car and you as one of the owners. You want to keep the car shiny and clean for the world to see, admire and asprire to.

If the new car starts acting up or giving you trouble, take it to the car dealer (your exec board, adviser, CPD, Alumnae Director, etc) and not to your best friend, the refrigerator repair man. He might know how to fix refrigerators, but he's not the best source to be fixing your new car. And he's just going to tell his fellow refrigerator repair men about your car problems. And then THEY'll tell their friends, the watch repair men. And so on.

And sooner or later, the washing machine repair guy is going to stop by your house for coffee and tell you how sorry he is that you totaled your car... when all that really happened was that you needed an oil change, but instead of getting the dealer to do it for you, you went somewhere else.

The moral of the story is this: keep your "car" shiny by projecting a positive image and save your frustrations for your fellow car owners (sisters) and talk to your car dealer (Exec., etc). Because they know how to fix what's under the hood! And remember, everytime you go outside the dealer or talk to someone who isn't a driver about the problems with your car, you're setting yourself up for back-talk and rumors that are going to grow, as well as making the car look like a jalopy, and making you and all of the other drivers look like the owners of a jalopy.

Our sorority is like a Porche. Don't treat it like an Edsel!

In other words, watch your actions and words around non-members, including your internet posts. Everything you say and do is a reflection on ADPi! And me!!!! And her! And her!"

To all ADPi sisters on this forum:

Welcome to Greek Chat! Here are a couple of guidelines to observe, both on this forum and throughout your internet posts.

1) BE AN ADPI LADY: You are representing Alpha Delta Pi at all times in everything you type. Be a lady and watch your language and judgements of others. Don't verbally attack someone in a post-- If you have a problem with something they have said, PM (private message) them and express your concerns in a mature way. I am shocked at how some other GLO members have "spoken" on GC... and after all the 4-letter words and hateful statements fly, their letters are proudly displayed at the bottom. It sets a poor statement for our membership if we act this way. Respect your letters and yourself and watch how you word your posts, please.

2) DO'S: What is acceptable to post on Greek Chat: your thoughts and feelings on college and post-college life. Social or philanthropy events at your school. Well-wishes to sisters and recruitment results. Your support of ADPi policies (including zero tolerance for hazing, educating others about TME and our Diamond Sister progam, etc.). Recruitment Day Themes or ADPi songs. Convention/DLC/IMPACT/Panhellenic/Campus events and thoughts. Remember, any questions about ADPi policy, etc., can be best answered by your chapter president or adviser. Opinions reflected on Greek Chat shouldn't be considered ADPi-proof answers for things. This is an idea-sharing forum. None of us are ADPi policy experts. So please consult the correct chapter or alumnae officer before implementing anything you hear of on Greek Chat. If you're looking for recruitment ideas, do talk to your chapter and the district director in charge of recruitment!

3) DON'T s: What is NOT acceptable: Do not post anything inflammatory that insults any person or organization. Do not post anything that happens in a chapter meeting, or an initation ceremony (this includes alpha ceremony, neophyte ceremony and initation or Jewel Degree). Do not post how your chapter voted on anything. Do not post the methods we use for membership selection. Do not post anything about a chapter that is having internal problems. Keep this kind of business restricted to the chapter members and their advisory board. Any alumna who catch wind of these problems-- contact the chapter and ask the chapter adviser how you can help support the chapter. GO TO THE SOURCE. By posting on Greek Chat that XYZ chapter is having a problem with its president, adviser, chapter probation, retention, etc., you're spreading sensitive and confidential chapter business to women who are not in the chapter and to nonmembers of ADPi. Do not post "dirty" songs that talk about substance use or insult anyone. Do not post links that are hurtful to any person or organization. Do not post anything that jeopardizes the public perception of Alpha Delta Pi or reveals anything that you know is a secret. Non-ADPi's read this thread frequently, and have not taken the vows we have taken. Do not share ADPi secrets with non-members.

4) USE YOUR COMMON SENSE. If you are about to post something, read it and ask-- do I want the whole world to read and know this? If the answer is no, post it on Pride Online, the ADPi members-only secure website. You can access Pride Online and your registration through alphadeltapi.org. Here at Greek Chat, if you have a topic you'd like to call attention to, but it is of a sensitive nature, please post a new thread titled "The Lion is Roaring" and invite ADPi GC'ers to Pride Online for "a discussion in the _____ Forum." Especially do not be critical of a chapter of ADPi on these Greek Chat forums. Lurkers read these boards and rumors spread to campuses, even if you haven't revealed what chapter/school it is. People will find out. The chapter will suffer from gossip.

5) MODERATION: This board is moderated by Honeychile and Texas*Princess. However, please moderate yourself and be sensitive to your posts. Preview your post before you post it and determine if what you have written is appropriate for a public message forum that any person surfing the internet can observe. If you post something and you would like to change it, you have the ability to delete or edit your post. If you see a post from someone else you find questionable, PM them to let them know and also let that forum's moderators know.

Enjoy Greek Chat! This board is a melting pot of men and women from various GLO's, professions and interests, and a great forum to swap ideas, learn about Greek Life and meet others with similar interests.

ABOUT RECRUITMENT
A consideration as we head back into the school year.

From time to time, intimate chapter information is shared, with the intention that we want to rally behind these chapters and help them. In theory, this is truly sisterhood at work. BUT.... Can we please take discussion relative to chapters who are undergoing membership challenges OFFLINE? This kind of discussion really hurts the chapters who are working hard to come back "up."

It's understood that everyone just wants to help, but these public boards are not the place to discuss collegiate chapters' challenges, status, membership or any other sort of internal problems.

Please, everyone, let's put a lid on it when discussing chapter challenges. It is hurting the sorority. Non-ADPi's read this board. And the gossip spreads back to the university Greek system, affecting the chapter's recruitment and reputation even more. It gets vicious. Thanks for doing your part, and please continue to support the chapters through the proper channels.

Thanks! Please continue to be considerate of ADPi and other Greeks. Pi-Proof your posts!
