Question Starbucks: Has anyone worked there before/submitted an application, etc.??

Hi! If you have, please tell me all about your experience, and if you have any tips for me, please share! I want to apply for a summer job at Starbucks in the Retail dept...

I was just on their online site...and I am SO impressed with their mission statement/environmental beliefs, awards won, etc. I really want to work for them...they seem like such a terrific company to work for...it seems like their employees are all treated wonderfully! Plus, as a customer, I have always received top-notch service. I love Starbucks!!!

Also, if I'm granted an interview...is it good to ask a lot of questions, to show that I am eager to work for, and learn, about Starbucks? I just want to stand out as an applicant!

A big THANK YOU to anyone who can provide any tips, info, etc. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thumbs up

hey,
well I dunno if this will help , I did a paper last semester on the employees of starbucks for my business class, and anyway a friend of mine works at one, and truly loves working there. They have a lot of benefits, and you can alwyas move up at starbucks. She told me when she went through her interview that they really look for upbeat people, and people who have at least had some of there products, just cause when it comes to the customer rep part it's all honesty, cause you had the product, yada yada.
Anyway, i hope that helps

Hi there DGPhoney!!

Yes, your reply is totally helpful--I am hoping that I will be that upbeat employee that they are looking for http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. I am usually very cheerful and friendly (at least that's what ppl say! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif)...so hopefully I will fit what they are looking for!

As for now...I am doing lots of research on Starbucks, via their online site!!!! I really hope that will help--but I don't know how to show them that I have done lots of research?

Also, DGPhoney! I didn't quite understand this:

I'm sorry, could you clarify that for me? Thanks again for the info, DGPhoney...it was very helpful! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif BTW, for your paper--did you interview many employees? Just curious http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!

hey newbie, no prb, I interviewed 20 employees and 2 or 3 managers. Oh the product thing, sorry that was kinda jumbled, I meant when they hire people they want to know whether you have honestly had their coffee, and drinks, and whatever else. just so when u work there(I am sure you'll get it) if someone asks you "oh have you ever tryed...., have u ever used....., then employees can give an honest product opinion. They are a great company to work for though, they have soo much to offer their employee's.
Good Luck, and i hope you get the job

Hi DGPhoney! Thanks so much for your reply--it is really helpful!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Wow, 20 employees interviewed! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I haven't tried a lot of their products, I only have a few favorites! (See, I don't like some types of coffee--for ex., black coffee, strong coffee.) I am the type that likes sweeter stuff--like their Frappucinos or that Caramel drink, which has espresso, milk, cream, and caramel in it! I also love their Mocha Espressos. Also--their new Frappucino (Raspberry Mocha Chip? Forgot the name exactly) was just delicious! So--to be honest, I would defiitely not be considered a coffee expert! Do you think they want the "expert" types, or would they be willing to educate me a bit more if they were to hire me?

Thanks again for your well wishes, too! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh, also, DGPhoney, would they mind if I have not tried many of their coffees? Would they be less likely to hire me if they knew that I haven't tried many flavors?

Sorry for so many questions!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

hey no prob ask away.yeah my paper was the bomb diggity http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
I don't think it's a prob if you only had a few, I am sure they know people aren't going to drink everything they have though, but it's the fact that u have had something there, so it's all good. But in general I think they want the people who are willing to learn and be helpful, a good worker, and it all blends well with their personality.

Hi Newbie! I know next to nothing about Starbucks but I do know quite a bit about how hard it is to find a good employee for a retail establishment in general.

I have read so many of your posts and you always come off as a bubbly, enthusiastic, friendly and well spoken young lady. I am absolutely certain that you will have managers standing in line to hire you! So don't worry, just be your sweet self and everything will work out just dandy! You'll see! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hi there DGPhoney and KillarneyRose!!

DGPhoney, thanks for being so generous!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Yep, your paper must've been the bomb! Starbucks is in so much demand these days...I'm just afraid that there will be tons of competition! Just at my school alone there are tons of applicants vying for the job!

KillarneyRose, aww, thanks so much for your compliments! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I really enjoy reading your posts, too...it's awesome that we share the same tastes in books! oh, BTW, did you see my post in the Book Thread about the Judith Krantz book? I'm curious as to what the book you read was all about! For the summer--I do have a "back-up" job just in case I don't get Starbucks or some other job. My dad has connections, and I can work at a bakery. But--I just don't feel that working there would be that satisfying--while I do love sweets http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif, the atmosphere/ppl just isn't diverse enough, and I'm just in love with what Starbucks stands for! (Community service, environmental-friendly, diversity, respect, etc.) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I really hope that I can get the Starbucks job! *crosses fingers* http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Newbie,

I just know you'd be a fantastic addition to the Starbuck's team, so I asked a sister who works in the Corporate office for advice.

They want someone with stellar customer service skills and attitude--like, how would you handle a customer that complains about their drink, etc. It is very important that the customer is taken care of, so they want people who are "do-ers" and will make it happen.

Work ethic, dedication, and someone who is willing to put in extra effort if needed. All of these things can be related to experiences you've had in high school, particularly if you're involved in any kind of extra curricular stuff.

Bottom line, be yourself! You have impressed so many of us on Greekchat with your positive attitude and kind words. I know you will get the job! (and hell, I don't even KNOW you!!!)

Greek love,

Carrie

Let me know how starbucks works out and if you need an inside reference. Write me at: Deltacarrie@yahoo.com

Good luck!! You are such a sweetie! Thanks for making my day!

I worked at Starbucks for a couple of months. It's really cool, because the people that work there are always a lot of fun. The only thing that I hated was the smell that I would have when I got home from work, and making Frappucinos. Ask anyone who works there. It's a great company to work for, but it is an extremely labor-intensive job. Keep that in mind.
