Unhappy Heartbroken

Hey everyone--

I'm very sorry to report that I did not receive a bid to any sororities again this year. I cannot express the way I feel right now--the only thing I know is that it feels like somebody died.
Thanks to all of you tried to help me with advice and so on.

I wish all of you the best of luck with your Greek organizations this year. Good luck and congratulations to all of you girls who are fulfilling your dream of pledging a sorority.

Thanks again for everything.

first off, take a big deep breath. you are still the talented, beautiful person you were before this started. sometimes there's a bigger purpose to all of this that we might not get immediately. i'm going to assume you are a sophomore. take the time to try other things and see if you can't find your connections there. and try to smile.
((((hugs))))

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that you put your name in COB. So don't give up. If that doesn't work out, join something else outside Greek Life.

I really am sorry. As someone else mentioned, consider COB. It is a lot less stressful!

Do not let this make you feel like you did something wrong...it is hard to really get to know people during rush.

Take some time to relax. Recruitment is super stressful for all involved. Consider COR'ing (COR=COB) if you still want to be Greek. It's a lot less structured, and a lot of times it'll be easier to find a group that you feel you "click" with. Some of my closest sisters were COB's, so don't feel like that would change your status in the sorority at all. Best of luck to you in whatever you choose to do!

A couple of my friends just experienced the same thing (only one was a freshman) and it has rocked my belief in the Pan "system". I felt like when they got cut that I, too, was cut. It really makes me think about sororities differently. I absolutely love some of the sororities on my campus and today it was hard for me to look at this girls and not get a little angry. I sure it will pass with time, but I can't imagine what you and my friends are feeling.

Like someone else said get involved in something else.

For the heartbroken girls:

Much love to you!!

I can relate to this, and I know how bad it really does feel. I went through formal fraternity rush five semesters in a row with no bids. However, I'm now in graduate school and I got a bid on a the first try. I guess it show that whenever something doesn't work out it will leave the door open for something better in the future.

COB=continuous open bidding. COB usually starts after formal recruitment as a way to add more girls into the sorority....the difference being that COB is less formal and therefore potentially more comfortable for girls who may have been turned off by the formality of formal recruitment. At our school, COBs consisted of game nights, cookie baking w/ the sisters of ABC sorority, etc etc etc...

COB

But that only works when the sorority or fraternity's quota hasn't been filled, right?
