Question Questions about UNT

Hey I hope this is the right place to ask these questions!

I am going to be transferring up to UNT in the Spring & I was looking into the sororities there. I've read all of the info & looked at the websites.

I was just wondering if anyone has any personal experience with any of the organizations there.

Also, I'm going to be entering as a Junior but I am already 22. Unfortunately life didn't have it in the cards for me to follow the path I wanted but I'm able to do so now. Am I too old?

I guess any info would be really helpful. I won't be able to visit the campus for a month or so.

Thanks!

I'm finally here!!!

I apologize for the late reply! I have been away from my computer for the past week because we've been working on our recruitment stuff! (which I'm VERY EXCITED about!!!)

First off, don't freak out because you're a junior! I actually joined my chapter of ADPi last Spring and when I joined I was a junior. Like you, I was also a transfer student and worried I was too "old" for the system, but it turns out I wasn't. I'm so glad I didn't let my fears of being "too old" stop me from rushing, because I have definately found the place for me!

I don't really know what the other chapters' policies are on upperclassmen, but I have met women from other chapters on our campus, and they were all so great!

Congratulations on your upcoming transfer to UNT!! I hope you find your home within UNT as well as our wonderful Greek system!

Don't worry, it didn't take long at all!

Thanks so much for your reply, I feel much better now.

Would you mind telling me a little bit about your sorority specifically?

I'm curious about living in the house, is it mandatory? Are fees different based on whether you live in our out of the house?

And when is Spring recruitment? Will it be hard for me to have a job during rush/pledging etc...?

Thanks!

Coming in Fall of 2004, 5 out of the 6 sororities will have housing, and I would guess that all the houses will have some kind of agreement for their members to live in the house. Right now since ADPi has a house, our members have to live in the house for at least a year (lots of fun!).

Dues are also a little bit less per semester because when you're living in the house you pay rent (which isn't even a lot compared to most apartments nearby school). I'm not sure how the other sororities will handle the dues thing once everyone is housed.

Having a job doesn't interfere at all with being a new member or a sister. A lot of our sisters work so we do our best to work around events

I don't know if UNT will have Spring recruitment... I think it depends on whether or not the sororities make total. Last spring 3 of the 6 sororities were recruiting in the Spring, so I'm really not sure how that will work?

If you have any other questions feel free to ask! My replies may be slow this next week because we have recruitment which is supposed to be really crazy!

Best wishes!

While I'd love to live in the house I just won't be able to. One, I have a cat I can't leave behind when I transfer & two, I have a really great deal worked out with my best friend whom I will be living with. Are there any exceptions to the living in house rule?

Are there any particular sororities known for hazing? I understand pledging etc...but I'm not down with being tortured & wouldn't be into any group that practiced hazing.

Oh, and do you know at what point they announce whether or not there will be Spring recruitment?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your help!

Take your time replying and have a fun week!
