Definately! And find out beforehand too. Let someone know that you're available to come and when so they can schedule things. One year we had a ton of alums show up on the first day of 1st round. There were so many they were bumping into each other and fighting over cleaning up glasses. Then the next day no one showed and we had to pull actives to do the job.

Also, find out if there are restricted times to enter or leave, like between parties. We used to have a rule that alums had to enter the house through the back door or the Chapter would be fined. It was thought that walking past the PNMs to the front door might somehow influence them. (???) But it finally dawned on Panhellenic that where parking was located and where the back doors of some houses were did not make this an easy task. Plus, if an alum has to trudge through mud and zig zag around dumpsters, she might not want to come help. So that rule was fortunately changed.

Zillini, I hope you will tell us about what's going on at the University of Alabama - how many sign up, etc. Good luck!
By the way, what happened last year when so many NMs did not show up on Bid Day?

Don't worry folks, I'll be reporting in with regular updates about U of Alabama. As of yesterday 8/9 there were 1,341 PNMs signed up. That's already 129 above last year's total and we're still 6 days away.

Recently we received notice that Panhellenic has increased the number of parties because of this:

1st round Open House: 22 parties (up from 18), 1st day 12 & 2nd day 10
2nd round Philanthropy Day: 11 parties (up from 10 I believe), long day
3rd round Skit Day: 7 parties (up from 6)
Pref Night: 3 parties (no change)

Hey Zillini,
Thanks SO much for replying. Now that daughter has graduated, I hear very little inside info about Alabama's recruitment.
1,341-OMG!!!! That's more than Auburn. Unbelievable! If there are 15 sororities, how do you have 22 parties? I wish UA would consider bringing in another group. Where they would put a house, though, I don't know.
And what was the reasoning for all the Bid Day no shows last year? Did they eventually show up?

There are 15 NPC orgs on Bama's campus, but only 14 are participating in Formal Recruitment. There will be a rest area set up for the PNMs to hang out at during their "off" rounds where they can get a drink, use the bathroom, freshen up and just relax.

Oh my gosh! I know some will drop or get cut, but what will that many PNMs do to quota and/or total? I think alot of the sororities at Bama took in the low 60's last year...will it be in the 70's this year, or does the cut percentage go up??

I just called the UCF Greek Life and they said that the number of pnm's is approaching 700. I'm still thinking OMG!!!! I know this is not as big as an SEC school, but with 10 chapters (there are 11 chapters, but one is not participating in formal recruitment) thats quota of like 70 (without drops, cuts, and such). People can still sign up and you can even sign up at the information meetings so the number can still go up!

It seems as if every school may have record numbers of PNM's this year.
As of 8/8 UK had over 900 registered.

Yes I know this and as of this year, they have become the biggest Florida school with 47,000 students and the largest growing university/college in the southeast. I meant they are not considered a "Southern" school where recruitment numbers are double this.

My understanding is that women may enroll up to the start of rush which is this weekend. But even if the number stayed at 900, UK's quota would be 75! And if 25% drop or are released, quota would be 55.

Not bad. How many sororities?

Arkansas has 950 as of 3 months ago, and 7 sororities...quota will be around 90 a pledge class. WAAAY too big.
