reading the People story on Jessa's courting I felt like I had time traveled back to the 1800's where mom and dad arranged your marriage. Freaky.

As long as a couple can support their children with an ethical income without government assistance in an environment without neglect , It doesn't bother me how many kids they have. I don't think there is a large percentage of couples that can actually do this successfully but they do exist. As a teacher, I've worked with a few quiverful families, large Catholic families and large blended families and their large family size has been a blessing to their children. Of course I've also seen large families that are not healthy too but that's going to happen regardless of family size.

One thing I see that inspires me from healthy large families is that the children are less self centered and often more "emotionally" mature than the children in small families. You won't find a "special snowflake" coming from a large family lol. I've never really watched the Duggars so I can't speak to the health of their family.

I am an only child and I have only been blessed with two children myself but I can definitely see the benefits of having many sisters and brothers.

Lawsuit reveals teen was groomed as personal sex slave in the Duggar family’s movement
By Travis Gettys
Tuesday, April 15, 2014 15:57 EDT

"A leading advocate of the patriarchal Quiverfull movement groomed a teenage girl as his “personal sex object” and then used the purity culture to shame her into silence, according to a lawsuit filed by his victim.

Douglas Phillips resigned last year from Vision Forum and Vision Forum Ministries over what he described at the time as an extramarital affair.

But the lawsuit, reported by Right Wing Watch, revealed more details about this relationship and the ways that women are treated in the Quiverfull movement – which has been popularized by the prolific Duggar family and their TLC reality show, 19 Kids and Counting.

Attorneys claim Phillips, a close friend to the Duggar family and an associate of actor Kirk Cameron, “methodically groomed” Lourdes Torres since she was 15 years old and led her to believe they would be married. "

I'm laughing at the fact that I started this thread on 10-13-2005 and it's still going strong!

I'm glad they can financially support their family but I'll still think they're crazy...

If you're interested, google Bill Gothard. There's a whole heap of mess there.

I can't believe Jim Bob is letting 2 of his daughters go. Never thought we'd see the day of them married. But ratings are in the toilet so I'm sure Mr. Duggar had no qualms about a courtship/wedding for ratings.

And now there will be more babies, which I hear is good for ratings, just a thought.

It took me reading this three times before I figured what you were thinking. I'm sometimes slow on the uptake.

Here's an article from someone inside the Quiverfull movement, it's interesting reading.

Wow - that is an interesting read.
It was eerily similar to some of the types of things Jenna Miscavaige Hill wrote in Beyond Belief.

Duggars visit fertility doctor: 'We would love' more children, parents of 19 say

This is their right. I still consider it ridiculous.

I had a baby when I was 46. Surprise! No fertility doctors or procedures were involved. Oddly, it was my easiest pregnancy of all and the ole boy was almost 10 pounds.

Hey, 19 kids is a bit much for most folks. But it does suggest that there is some serious furniture moving taking place in the private quarters.

Not. Mad. At. Em.
