Lil Sunshine, I enjoyed Thieves Paradise too.

Right now I'm reading B-Boy Blues by James Earl Hardy--will keep you posted!

I'm also reading What You Owe Me by Bebe Moore Campbell.

Cool I'm baaaaaaack......

Since I last posted, I finished "Finding Fish" and "Growing Up X." Both were great reads, and I almost cried during "Finding Fish" b/c of how he was treated during his childhood. As far as "Growing Up X," I really felt for Ilyasah and how she felt about growing up without her father, as well as other events. If you haven't read either book, what are you waiting for???

I'm starting "The Kitchen God's Wife" by Amy Tan. I really enjoyed watching and reading "The Joy Luck Club" so I'm looking forward to reading this one.

Right now, I'm reading "The Complete Stories" by Zora Neale Hurston. This is a collection of published and unpublished short stories she's written throughout her career between books. I just finished re-reading "The Coldest Winter Ever." I still really don't like Winter too much, but I loooove the book.

I know everybody has already read the "Coldest Winter Ever" but I have just finished it and on a challenge I'm currently reading "BMore Careful" by Shannon Holmes. Very similar to Coldest Winter but a lot more violent in my opinion.

Most recently I have read

Nigger by Randall Kennedy
Envy of the World by Ellis Close
The Great Investment by TD Jakes

Finished Reads

I just got finished reading Soulstepping by Elizabeth Fine. It's all about step shows including its origins as well as some social aspects of stepping. It was excellent!

Wink The Winter Break Reading Binge

Currently reading:
  • Soul Music by Terry Pratchett - I'm not usually into fantasy/sci fi, but this came highly recommended

On deck:
  • Cryptonomicon - Neal Stephenson
  • The Emperor of Ocean Park - Stephen L. Carter (has anyone else read this?)
  • Flyboy Action Figure Comes With Gasmask - Jim Munroe: described as a "superhero story for culture jammers".

If you like Octavia Butler, try to pick up some stuff by the African-Canadian author Nalo Hopkinson. She's more of a fantasy/magic realism author, but her work is interesting because she writes a lot of from a Caribbean/African point of view. I read her collection Skin Folk and I highly recommend it.

I stopped reading ZNH's "The Complete Stories" b/c I felt too distracted (I'm up to "The Six-Gilded Bits"). I'm now reading "The Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man" by James Weldon Johnson. I just started reading it today and should be finished by tomorrow. After I finish this one, I'll be reading, "Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned" by Walter Mosley. Stay tuned.....
