What's your big thing(s)?

A lot of Chapters at a lot of Schools have one (or more) big programs that are really associated with them . . .

Here at this campus:

Alpha Gamma Delta does Mr. Sweetheart every year . . .

Delta Zeta Does their annual Lip Synch Show.

Zeta Tau Alpha does Zeta Search for the Stars.

Sigma Sigma Sigma does Greek Goddess.

The guys really don't do anything . . .

So what are the big programs you do on your campus and what are they about? Or the big programs that others do?

Maybe it will give us some ideas about events we can do at different campuses . . .

We do the greek olympics and we have a spinoff of mr. greek week and mrs. greek week, which are in a sense decathlons involving greek games. It's pretty kewl and we do it every semester. and when we can, we try to get as many of the greek orgs to pitch in and donate and help sponsor something with the campus, like a Thanksgiving food drive, or something in a similar sense. I really like what the TKEs do here. They have their own food drive for Thanksgiving and for 100 hours straight, they have at least one member sitting on the top of their house, and it's all decorated and lit up with crazy looking lights and stuff. It's awesome, we'd do something like that, but you can sit on the top of our roof because it towers into the sky!

Our school seems to be really big on yearly events...

Fiji has Islander...a huge concert/party- They've had AMAZING bands..Sublime, 311, goldfinger, blink 182 etc. They also have Fiji soccer tournament.

Pike has Fight Night (boxing) in spring and their Green Fog party in Fall

ATO throws Space Jam every year...basically a huge, space themed black light party

Kappa and Theta have a Kite and Key crush party

Tri Delt has Poisiden Man, a male beauty pagent

Theta Chi has Miss Isla Vista, girls's beauty pagent

As for sports, there's Phi-Ball (Alpha phi, volleyball) Pi Phi Bowling, Sigma Nu's Big West Basketball, DG anchor Splash, and Beta softball....Beta also has a Beta Bedrock party.

AEPi has Mardi Gras which is HUGE every year, but usually gets shut down by the police.

AEphi makes a men of Santa Barbara calendar.

Sigma Chi has Derby Days

That's all I can think of right now, but I know there's more!!

My school's small, but we still get involved in big ways. Our organizations really pride themselves on philanthopic work, so many of the big events have to do with that.

I'm an AZD, and we have our annual Xi Man competition every year, which is like a male beauty pagent. All donations go to a local food shelter, and you get a discount on admission if you bring a canned good. We also did a Toy Drive this year for local daycares and pre-schools that was sucessful, so I hope we continue to do that every year. We also sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt with Sigma Phi Epsilon every spring and invite area children to participate.

The K-Sigs do a See-Saw a Thon in the fall where they ride a huge see-saw in front of the campus for a whole weekend, 24-7. Many other greek organizations help out by riding the see-saw and giving these guys a break. I did this year and it was a blast! All the money they collect goes to St. Judes Children's Hospital.

The Zeta's and Sig Kaps started to do a haunted house at Halloween for philanthropy which I think was split between their repective charities. This year they did a haunted hayride and let the K-Sigs join in.

Our one local frat, Phi Theta Phi, does the biggest event on our campus by far. They do the Walk-a-Thon every winter and have raised over 1 million dollars for the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. They walk in the cold from our school to Pittsbugh usually in harsh weather and snow. They've been doing this since the sixties and alumni come back every year and help the guys do the walk. It's a big generator of pride for the guys and our school because they are one of the top contributors of philanthropic work out of all greek organizations in the nation. They just did this year's walk this past weekend, and were hoping to bring in $50,000, but I haven't heard yet how much they collected.

I know our other greek organizations do stuff, but I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Many chapters of Delta Phi Epsilon do "Deepher Dude", which is your male beauty pageant thing. It normally is a great fundraiser and makes a lot of chapters a lot of dough for Cystic Fibrosis. Also, all of our chapters participate in and host an ANAD Candlelight Vigil for the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. It's a big to do

Let's see what I can remember...most of these are annual philanthropy events but may have parties attached....

Alpha Gam--Water Wars
AXO--mini golf tournament
DG--Anchor Splash
Tri Delta--Trident Gent
KD--Manhunt
Pi Phi--All male/fraternity revue
Phi Mu--Big Man on Campus and Grandslam (fraternity softball tourney)
XO--Sandslam (beach volleyball)
Theta--Theta Jam (3 on 3 basketball)
ZTA--Race to Live--5K run
Gamma Phi--Casino Night
ADPi--ADPi-athalon
I don't remember what Kappa and DZ did.

TEP--Pool Sharks
KA--Powderpuff Football
KappaSigma--Margaritaville Madness (LipSynch)
SigEp--Queen of Hearts
SigmaChi--Derby Days
FIJI--Islander
PhiSig (I think)--Boxcar derby race
Someone did a kickball tournament as well
Sigma Pi did Tiger toss (cheerleading competition) until they were kicked off campus and then it became an IFC event
There is Linedance (but it's not line dancing--it's other dancing) also sponsored by IFC I think
There are many more fraternities on campus but I can't remember what their events were.

We also had Dance Marathon but it was campus wide and other groups besides Greeks participated. Our Greek week was revived a couple of years ago and it hasn't really caught on yet. At Halloween there is "Trick or Treat on Greek Street" for underpriviledged area children.
