This is an interesting item. Apparently this may be the first example of a "pledge pin (key)" as the person whose name is on the back was enrolled in the Emory & Henry Prep school, but never attended E&H, and there doesn't seem to be any chapters, or attempts of a chapter of Phi Kappa Psi at Emory & Henry.
My thoughts are that this was given to this person as a sort of "pledge" item for when this guy started college to go to a school where Phi Kappa Psi had a chapter. Its from 1869, and very nicely engraved.

While packing up for the end of the school year, I found my new member book! Thumbing through, there were two pictures of GORGEOUS badges I had to take pictures of to share. I'm not sure if they've been in the thread before, but they're beautiful to look at anyways.

The emerald badge... well, actually all of them, but the emerald badge especially - makes me just swoon. Look at the differences in those badges!
ETA: would the bar pin be what I have seen in photos as a "collar pin"? Do you know what I'm talking about?

I know what you're talking about, but I'm not sure if that's what it was. There wasn't really anything in the book about the badges/pin specifically aside from the captions from what I remember. I would love to check but unfortunately, in the disaster zone that is my room mid-packing I can't find anything.

Thanks for posting these! I love them! I appreciate that all of our badges now are uniform and tie us together, but MAN do I wish we still had some variety/choice beyond diamonds or pearls.
If you don't mind me asking, what year was this new member book published? Mine didn't have these photos!

Perhaps, but your badge is beautiful in it's simplicity AND has 27 pearls! I have a soft spot for pearls.

Seems to be common, considering there is a connection between the two groups....
