Less bids during spring?

Is true that Fraternities give less bids during the Spring? I know for a fact that there are less rushees during the Spring? Less rushees, more selective? Doesn't make sense.

GENERALLY, spring rush has much fewer people. Why? The people who wanted to go Greek end up going Greek in the fall. Additionally, some groups may choose not to participate in Spring rush. So the number of men who rush on the spring is much lower than the fall. Less rushees in the spring means less bids are given out.

For example: In the fall, you might have 500 men rushing, let's say 450 receive bids and 425 end up actually joining. In the spring you have 70 guys who rush and 50 receive bids and only 40 end up accepting their bids. Does it mean spring was more selective? Not necessarily.

Oh, and at some schools there is a stigma attached with being a spring pledge, so people will actually avoid spring rush.

At my school, there were times when a group had the same number of pledges Fall and Spring semesters, but almost always the Spring pledge classes were half the size (sometimes even smaller) as the Fall classes.

does that mean it is easier to join a fraternity in the spring because they try to meet a certain quota?

No, fraterniies don't lower their standards for spring rush. If my group didn't extend someone a bid in the fall, we wouldn't extend someone that bid in the spring.

Ditto; my fraternity uses spring mainly to either extend bids to those that weren't able to attend our fall rush or potentials that we like but needed more time to decide.

Hopefully there's no GPA requirement, because it's clearly "fewer."
