I don't think that factored in to his early bid at all. Other guys who are not legacies also got and accepted early bids. I hear there was a time when legacy status really increased somebody's chances of receiving a bid, but those days appear to be long gone. I know and know of plenty of girls and guys both who have been cut by their legacies. I have a friend whose son was recently cut by the fraternity his dad and grandfather are members of. Unfortunately, it was the only fraternity the guy has ever had any real interest in and he is now without one because he won't consider others.
Anyway, my husband is thrilled that our son is now his brother, but he encouraged him not to get comfortable with the legacy standing. He advised him to look at other houses as well...1.) to make sure he had found the best fit for him and 2.) in case that bid from the legacy didn't come. BUT --it did, our son loves his new brothers and we're all thankful that it worked out.
