Often times, these moms and kids leave with the clothes on their backs, and having toys to play with would be wonderful. Just a suggestion!

Good idea, SW. I know there is a DV shelter in my town, I just don't know the name or where it is. I'll find it and take some things there in the next month.

Most of the time, you'll be directed to an office for the shelter, not the actual shelter. They work hard to keep the actual shelter locations secret so the abusers cannot find them. Just an FYI.
I made it an annual ritual when my kids were little and had too many toys to go through them together before Christmas. The kids would help decide which ones could be donated for poor kids or to hospitals for sick kids. It is a great way to teach them generosity at an early age

We did that Dee. Twice recently in fact. lol.... Once in September when I couldn't stand the mess in the playroom anymore, and then again a few days before Christmas. Gave away lots of toys less than two years old in great shape, things hadn't hardly been played with at all. We got a new shelf organizer (with bins), and were able to clear out one out of three toy boxes. We still have WAAAAAAAY too much now. I'm going to let them choose what gets donated. They always do a good job of picking out what stays and what goes.

Ariens Sno-Tek 24'', 208cc of snow-removing horsepower! Electric start, one-hand operation, remote chute deflector allows change of plume easily.
I. still. dislike. snow. with. a. passion. reserved. for. few. things. in. life.
But it's nice to know I can plow out of my driveway much more easily during Ohio's winter months. Now, if I can just get my 7th grader to skip a few grades and graduate early so dad can finally leave Ohio for warmer climes.

I will be grumpy with you. Every NYE event I've attended: 12:00 midnight - YIPEE! 12:01 - Now what?

Don't Drink and Drive - Here's Why
Sharing my Gamma Phi sister's story:
Almost three decades ago, a friend and I survived a head on collision with a drunk driver.
True story.
The impact was as if we had hit a brick wall at 85 mph.
We both had buckled our seat belts – before it was cool – before it was the law.
It is a miracle that either of us survived.
It took 45 minutes for the paramedics to cut my friend out of the car because the engine was pushed in over her legs.
She was conscious through it all.
I whiplashed so hard I tore my carotid artery.
I was unconscious for the next 72 hours.
The other driver was 17 and already had DUI’s on his record.
He walked away without a scratch.
We both had life threatening injuries and required major surgeries.
It is important tonight (and every night) not to drink and drive. Give your keys to your host. Have the bartender call you a cab (or AAA Tipsy Tow). Don't be afraid to tell someone that aren't getting behind the wheel. There is NO excuse to endanger yourself or others.
It is also important to remember to drive defensively – you may be sober, but the car in front of you or behind you or beside you may not be equipped with a driver who is.
And please – give the road your UNDIVIDED attention. Don’t text, don’t put on makeup, don’t do anything that distracts you from driving defensively.
I survived that night for a reason and one of them, I think, is to remind people about just this very thing.
Wishing a Safe and Happy New Year’s Eve to all my family and friends

^ What SWTXBelle said. Be safe. If you're going out, take taxis or public transportation, or have a designated driver (or BE a designated driver).
SWTXBelle, you and your friend are lucky to have survived, and I'm glad you did.

Not my story - it's a sorority sister's. She shared it with me and I've been sharing it.
I did lose a former student - he had been drinking, so called his wife to come pick him up. On the way home they were run into head on by a 21 year old who had 3 times the legal limit b.a.c. She survived; my student and his wife were found, dead, holding hands in their crumpled car.
Oh, the sad, sad irony. Kevin did the right thing; the other driver didn't. She only has to serve 8 years for taking two lives.
Whatever it takes; be safe.

Prayer...
So Brother and SIL, how does that work?
Every time you pray, my Dad writes you a check. Where do you pray at the bank or mass?
Does the same thing happen to your parents? When was the last time they wrote you a check? Oh, wait, you don't tell them that my Dad does.
Maybe if I pray, Dad will write me a check too. Oh wait, I don't do it for non-necessities.
