Bid Day at University of South Carolina

I just got a call from my D. There was so much screaming in the background that I couldn't hear what she was saying. She finally had to text me the news. She is an OOS freshman at University of South Carolina. There have been many ups and downs during this week, but I'm happy to report that she got a bid to her #1 choice. From the minute she walked in the doors of the first party, she knew this was the sorority for her. I'm so glad this worked out for her. With her being so far away, it would have been hard to not be able to help her thorough it. Now the fun begins!!

Univ South Carolina Rush

I've visited this site daily for the past two weeks and decided to share a word of encouragement to other clueless moms.

My D and I stumbled upon this site just days before moving her to the USC campus. We were both overcome with anxiety when we realized we had not prepared correctly for rush week. We had no clue that recs were so important, especially for an out-of-state student. She knew no one attending or would be attending USC. After many discussions, she said she would meet lots of girls and no matter the outcome was going to make it a positive experience. She was fully prepared to be cut early on.

The second round she was invited back to 6 of the 7 parties allowed. We were estatic! The third round she was invited back to 4 with four being the maximum allowed. Once again, she was thrilled! The only disappointment came when she was cut from a sorority she really liked and the only sorority we had actually secured two recs for.

Pref day rolled around and she received the maximum of 2 parties so once again she was estatic, especially since they were her number one and two choices.

Yes, recs probably would have helped along the way, but I also believe that a person can stand out even without. I'm so glad she did not give up before the process even started.

So if your a mom out there that has a daughter yet to go through rush - know that we apparently did nothing right and still D had a successful rush.

I've learned a lot by reading all the posts - thanks to everyone for all their advice.

Congrats to you and your daughter! I have a friend at USC (not a sorority girl) and I remember her calling me freshman year when she thinking about rushing and telling me she didn't think it was for her because all the girls always looked beautiful and so put-together. Glad to hear your daughter joined a great group of girls!

D is a proud Alpha Chi Omega

Her roommate is now an Omega Chi

Both had positive experiences despite the excessive heat.

momto3, A good friend of mine has a sophomore daughter in the USC Chi O chapter. The (also OOS) girl is a wonderful young lady so I would imagine your D is in good company!
