I know for a fact that you can SIP and accept a bid through COB since my last little sis did that when she did not put AOII on her bid list but decided to accept our bid after recruitment. I doubt very seriously that our by the books Greek Advisor would have let her do so against panhellenic rules, though, I have never read the rules myself.

Quoted from the Green Book:
Quote:
RECRUITMENT POLICIES, RULES AND GUIDELINES

4. If Preferential Bidding is used, women who indicate an Intentional Single Preference and do not receive an invitation to membership are eligible for Snap Bidding and Continuous Open bidding, but are not eligible for Quota Addition.

Resolved (1995), That a Potential New Member who withdraws from the Fully Structured Recruitment process before the signing of her membership acceptance shall be eligible for Snap Bidding and Continuous Open Bidding.

Thanks for the clarification! I guess I need to buy the update for my Green Book.

Kudos to Alabama Panhellenic!!!
in Gamma Phi's and probably some other chapter's case, they were allowed to bid OVER total. Gamma Phi and all chapters now has more than 200 members...more than 300 I might imagine in some cases.

I'm pretty sure my school always did this. This is why I always confuse snap bidding and open bidding. It seems the logical thing to do for the girls and the sororities. I mean if it doesn't match once, it's not going to match no matter how hard you stare at it.

I'm not disagreeing with your conclusion but I read this differently. I read it to mean that since they placed everyone, all the groups made quota and exceeded total. And that's what should be the outcome with RFM if there were enough women to make it mathmatically possible. Hope that makes sense!

Yes - I do not believe these women were "snap bids to total", but rather quota additions. There is no longer the 5% rule for quota additions so the RFM specialist will place as many women as possible as long as they maximized their options and the chapters also did not under invite or otherwise not follow their recommended carry figure.

Penguin Trax - Don't buy that updated Manual of Information just yet. The Jan 2008 ed is the most current one, lots of clarification was done last year. There could be some proposed changes coming down the pike for this October's NPC meeting. We should find out soon.

This is correct. From what I've heard, no chapters had to make any snap bids.

My apologies. I did say snap bidding up to Total, but meant quota additions up to Total. I edited my earlier post. Please forgive me as I'm still recovering from Recruitment induced sleep deprivation and stress.

Another question as I continue to struggle a little with all this.......I spoke with my friend who works with her Chapter at Bama, and was asking her about my daughter trying this again. She said it was her understanding that if a PNM had been dropped by a group once, she would be dropped again. Please tell me this does not apply to a "grade drop!" That would never give a great girl like my daughter a chance to show that she's capable of making the grades.

And another thing.....I have to reflect and say that since my sorority days, it's just so different....of course grades are important, but I didn't realize it was a Phi Beta Kappaish type deal. There is a lot of just having a great time making friends, singing, dancing, going to ball games and working for charities. I do wish that what my child did in 10th grade, which brought her GPA down so badly, didn't have to affect her enjoying all the benefits of a sorority. But as previously stated, she'll certainly have plenty of time to study now!!
