Hi SAI's
I'm an unaffiliated alum now, but I got my Bachelor of Music (Music Education and Percussion) in December of 1999 and was a member of Xi Chapter at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, a chapter that has been operating continuously for almost 85 years and is still going strong.
Although membership was never a problem, I learned that it's always important to recruit non-music majors...they made up about 15 percent of our chapter. Hold active musicales and invite everyone from boyfriends to professors, prospective member dinners or brunches, offer music theory/history/instrument techniques tutoring sessions, hand out flyers to participants in musical ensembles, and stress that the organization welcomes any woman with an interest in music. If your chapter is friendly to members of more than one GLO, stress that!!
And be nice to your percussionists when they have to move in a huge marimba for the musicale
Argh, I KNEW I should have gone with a voice major (yes, I sing too, and play the piano fairly badly).
