Housing Help

Gentleman,

I understand that this forum is used very little but I would like to see it pick up a little bit. I am a active member of a Kentucky chapter, and we have recently been approved by the university for housing. The university dropped this information on us with very little time to begin to raise alumni support and funds for our house, whereas the university will be breaking ground in the spring. There are nine fraternities at my school and only five are going to get housing. The four fraternities that are left will suffer great losses during rush. We stand to be one of those fraternities. We have some money in a housing account, and with 600 alumni, we greatly need their support. We are a powerhouse chapter. Each Convention we win a Ammen award, and last year we were a Marshall chapter, which is the highest honor a KA chapter can recieve.

Brothers, any advice on contacting and requesting help from alumni would be greatly appreciated. Please help me to help my chapter.

Hey Billy -

I'm not a bro (as you know, duh) but as far as contacting alumni I would see how much help the school's alumni office will give you with finding addresses, paying for postage and such. I just coordinated our chapter reunion and the addresses the school had were WAY more up to date than what we get from our nationals. I think people know they have to update with the school, but seem to think if they tell one brother an address it magically gets to nationals. It saves a lot of time and returned mail to just go through the school.

Good luck dude I know y'all can do it!!!

You know, I never really thought of that. We have so many returns on our alumni mail its not even funny. I guess if anyone of those alumni still owe the university money, the university would have a much more updated list of addresses.

Good idea 33. Thanks.

Yes, I agree--hit up the alumni first! I'm just kidding, but seriously, they can be your best friends. When our DZ chapter reorganized a couple years ago, a bunch of alums put a lot of time and effort in to help and they're still doing it--I'm eating some cookies that they brought us to snack on during finals week as we speak. But back to KA--I was reading about you all, and I cannot believe how nice and *gentlemanly* you all and your traditions are...where were you all hiding all those times I needed a nice date to formal?!? I think it's sad that the KA chapter here at UK lost their house last year (I think that's when it was). I don't hear too much about them anymore, and I'm sure that their house being condemned didn't help much...
