THE WASHINGTON TIMES

China's naval buildup has produced a new type of attack submarine that U.S. intelligence did not know was under construction, according to U.S. defense and intelligence officials.
The submarine was spotted several weeks ago for the first time and has been designated by the Pentagon as the first Yuan-class of submarine.

maybe Bush should hurry up and sell Taiwan those 8 subs we talked about selling in 2001...

They know now. There's always a point at which you didn't know before and you know after. This is that point. What's embarassing about that?

The trouble with turning over military technology to Taiwan is that whatever technology exists there will probably be leaked to mainland China.

Exactly which is why I find the fact that there is US military technology in the Saudi kingdom to be a damn shame.

I dont know what ya'll are worried about. Its chinese! That means its cheaply made and will fall apart after a few months of service. I am sure its also running on illegal copies of Windows that they cant get the service patches and upgrades for.

Now if it was Japanese, you could run it forever till the propellers fell off.

Plus, it'll get great gass mileage and if it does break down, the parts would be cheaper.
