HAPPY Ending after unsuccessful Fall Rush
I received many messages of support after I posted about my (sophomore) daughter's unsuccessful rush at UF this summer. Like everyone that rushes, she had the grades, the extracurriculars, the social skills, looks, wardrobe, rec letters etc etc. When she was dropped, she was devastated and my heart was broken for her.
Things got better as she was befriended by several girls in sororities she didn't get a bid from. She is her platonic friend's date for all his fraternity functions and the (sorority) girls said to her "you're here, good for you. "
Yesterday, she became a sister in one of the local service sororities. While it wasn't what she originally hoped for, she is now ecstatic. Her Big is the president. She says each girl is nicer than the next. Her recent community service activity was at an elephant preserve and they all had a blast. They are participating in Dance Marathon. They do almost all the same things that the Panhellenic ones do except they don't have a house. Lastly she said, you told me "I'd end up where I'm supposed to and you're right." While the failed bids at UF during the fall were very painful, she has moved on and is very happy.
I wanted to thank all of you who sent messages of support. Several suggested I post her story, after initiation, in the event that others went through the same original disappointment she did. There are other great local sororities that are looking for equally smart, fun, motivated and great girls. There clearly isn't room for everyone, but consider other options. She is very glad she did.
