Peter Travers of the Rolling Stone gives Brokeback Mountain 4 stars out of 4....

http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/...on=6.0.12.1040

and to quote part of Mr. Travers' review: "...See the movie first and make your judgements later."

Being the Oscar predictor that I am, I think we are going to see a lot of nominations and trips to the podiums during the movie awards season for this year for this film.

Folks, I see every movie that I can in theaters, so please don't bash me for posting this review. See the movie first then let's debate its merits and faults.

"Brokeback" may cause a lot of debate on here but I know I will be there on opening day here in Chattanooga to see this film with an open mind and an open heart.

Me and a whole bunch of my female friends are all over this movie, and are literally counting down the days until it comes out.

And anybody who bashes you just for posting a review is a git.

Well, I am a guy and I don't think that most guys are going to be seeing this movie.

I have been watching movies ( both mainstream and independent ) for over 34 of my 38 years. I have learned not to judge a film by its content but see each and every movie with an open mind.

I'm counting down the days till December 9th too. I read the short story that this is based on and enjoyed it. It probably won't make alot of money, but it should get the awards.

I read that they're targeting women with the marketing and whatnot....making it seem like an epic love story. You can see that the posters for Brokeback and Titanic are similar: http://www.defamer.com/hollywood/bro...-on-137271.php

On tonight's show, Ebert and Roeper gave Brokeback Mountain two big thumbs up.......

it looks like this film is the film to beat at this year's Oscars for Best Picture......

Oscar nominations are on Jan. 30th at 8:30am eastern with the awards ceremony on March 5th at 8pm eastern.

Add me to that list! I can't wait. After Harry Potter, this is my most-anticipated movie of the year.

Great movie. A little slow, but not boring. It's not really that gay, if that makes any sense. It's just two people who are in love but can't be together...and they just happen to be men. Loved the soundtrack too.

ETA Tried to see it Friday night, but all the shows were sold out. Same thing happened on Saturday night, but luckily we bought tickets online beforehand. The audience was a good mix of male/female, old/young.

How was the audience reaction? I have heard reports of lots of crying audience members ( please, no spoilers ).

The audience seemed to really like it. They applauded at the end. Not to give anything away, but yeah I did hear some crying and sniffling.

It's only playing at one theater here (hence all the sold out shows).

Yeah I saw your other thread. I think it will get a Golden Globe nomination on Tuesday too.

Weekend Gross for Brokeback

Focus Features' "Brokeback Mountain," starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as sheepherders who share a summer of love then conceal an ongoing affair from their families, took in $544,549 in just five theaters. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association picked "Brokeback Mountain" as the year's best movie.

That is about $108,909.80 per screen.....

Boston Film Critics, taken from www.oscarwatch.com

Boston Film Critics go for Brokeback Mountain
Ladies and gents, we now have our official critics' darling, Brokeback Mountain. The interesting thing about Boston is that they were one of the few who predicted Adrien Brody to win for The Pianist, along with director Roman Polanski. Other than that, they are hit and miss. This year, they went for:

Film: Brokeback Mountain
Director: Ang Lee
Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
Actress: Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line
Supporting: Catherine Keener, Paul Giamatti
Screenplay: Capote, Dan Futterman
Documentary: Murderball
New Filmmaker Award: Joe Wright for Pride & Prejudice
