Rushing Spring Semester as a Sophomore?

Hey guys, just wanted to get some feedback on whether or not rushing Spring semester of my sophomore year will put me at a disadvantage.

A little background, I rushed this past Spring semester, and got 5 bids, but second-guessed myself about my options and ended up dropping out of the pledge process of a certain fraternity 3 weeks in because I didn't feel like I fit in there (although everyone there liked me and they want me to pledge again apparently).

Also, I am fairly sure I do not want to rush this upcoming fall semester for various reasons including a ridiculous schedule. Basically, I want to know if you guys think rushing again would be bad, and if you have any ideas on how to help choose the correct fraternity to pledge.

Any help and/or advice is appreciated, thanks.

Do people normally rush the Spring of their Sophomore year on your campus? At some schools, this isn't the norm. At others, it's done frequently. Does your school have a competitive rush or a perceived (or real) tier system? I don't know your school so I can't really give you an answer applicable to your situation.

You dropped out of the pledge process after 3 weeks. Some people don't feel like they really fit in until they are initiated. It varies. Did you give it a real chance? Would you drop a group the same way if you get a bid and choose to pledge in the Spring?

We can't tell you if you're going to choose the correct fraternity. The correct fraternity is the group you fit in with and like. The only person that can guide you on that is yourself.

Just my own personal opinion, but if you do rush you will probably not get bids from 5 groups again, especially since you told 4 of them you did not want to join them. People who have dropped out of pledging before are generally not as wanted (since you could do the same again).

As far as choosing the right group:

One thing I've noticed is that some rushees are sold on the house by one or two active brothers, and then pledging starts, and they realize it isn't for them. Of course you are going to have guys you are closer with, and maybe even a few you can't stand, but you should be looking at the whole chapter, AND the guys who will be your pledge brothers, and feel like you fit in with most of the group.

It's not unusual for people to pledge their sophomore year. I met some when I pledged the first time.
