Recruitment Pref Dress

Hey there! Ill be going through recruitment this fall. I have a black dress already in my closet. Its silvers on top, with bead/jewels things on the rim. And then black on the bottom. With pockets. So its not one of those flowy dresses. But anyway, is wearing a black dress to Pref really looked down upon? I don't know if those are the right words. But everybody has said to wear a colored dress, to grab the attention. And I have looked around in stores but nothing has caught my eye. Will I be okay with the black dress or should I keep looking?

Thank you!

It depends on the campus. It also depends on the dress. We often say that PNMs should stay away from sparkles and bangles on their dresses and we have even seen this same suggestion on Greek Life websites.

Who is this "everyone" you speak of?

PNMs all wear black at many schools. At these schools, someone in a different color will stick out like a sore thumb in a not good way and this may also make the PNM feel uncomfortable. I have seen many threads here that say a PNM should wear a different color to prefs to stand out, but honestly this advice frequently seems to be written by women who were not at these very competitive schools. As someone who has extensive experience as both a PNM and adviser at these types of schools, I would advise you to wear black if that's the traditional attire for preference round at your school unless you are someone with an abundance of confidence.
