Covered letters during rush

My husband and I were driving around Athens, Georgia today, and saw that several of the fraternity houses had their letters covered with black cloth?

Thank you for your responses.
This has been explained as a sign of mourning, which makes more sense than my speculation about rush.

What does that mean? Does it have something to do with end of rush?

I didn't remember that from when I was a student, but maybe I wasn't paying attention.
Perhaps a student died? I think I'd guess that before the rush thing, but who knows...

Well, maybe

I might have guessed that, but it was only some of the fraternities and appeared to be none of the sororities.

With a death, I'd expect it to be one group or all groups.

My daughter, a Chi O alum, saw that as well. Someone told her that a KA had died.

That makes some sense

KA and SAE were two of the groups that were cover up.
So that might explain it.
Thanks.

You can't find any news stories though

There's nothing in the red and black, the athens paper, or the AJC.

Anybody know anything else?
