More GLO's Investigated at Northwestern
As if recent problems with Phi Delta Theta weren't enough:
'Greek Night' under investigation
February 09, 2005
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is conducting an investigation into alcohol violations among six chapters who participated in a Gone Greek Night party at Hotel Orrington Jan. 21.
Delta Chi, Lambda Chi Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternities, and Alpha Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta and Kappa Delta sororities may face alcohol violations following a party in the ballroom at the hotel, 1710 Orrington Ave., said Kyle Pendleton, director of fraternity and sorority life.
"Some of the reported (alcohol) violations involved new members who are underage," said Pendleton, who did not know how many members were present. "But it has not been determined if they were drinking at the hotel or prior to arriving at the event."
Pendleton said the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life has met with the six chapters and is still awaiting a report from the hotel. He added the office is working independently with each chapter to "sort out their role in the evening." Repercussions stemming from the event will depend on the responsibility of each chapter.
"If they are found in violation, punishment can vary upon degree of the violation but ultimately it will be up to the (Interfraternity Council) and Panhellenic Judicial Board as to their sanctions," he said.
Hotel staff have not been very cooperative in providing the his office with additional information, Pendleton said.
"One of the reasons we're taking our time and making sure we get all the information from the chapters is because there have been varying degrees of violations reported and there have been multiple accounts of the evening from different people," Pendleton said. "We're really trying to sort things out right now, and the hotel is the last missing piece."
The presidents of the fraternities and sororities involved could not be reached for comment or declined to comment on the investigation.

At least it appears that the investigation will be thorough and fair, and it appears that the Greek Judicial Boards will be involved.
