I'm only going to say this one more time:
I NEVER heard of the term "poverty pin" until I was on GreekChat for a few years!
I will not embarrass the person who first posted it. I can only imagine that the nickname came the same way so many other people complain about not being able to afford what they'd really like. I remember all too well a summer term when my roomie & I lived on 2 cases of tuna and 2 cases of macaroni & cheese we were given.
That said, if one is paying her own way through college and sorority, getting the least expensive pin is the most sensible way to go.

Most of the women in my chapter got the plain polished gold badges:
However, I wanted something a little nicer and got a chased gold badge similar to this, but the design of mine is no longer available:
We have a ton of badge designs, though:
...and more.

I really like the duo tone one. It looks very elegant.

I agree- I also think the Greek letters are more clearly defined that way. I usually see the all pearl one on the NPC badge posters and such, and I've had a hard time distinguishing the letters. But now it totally makes sense (and I feel a bit daft). It's very cool!

This is resurrected from an old thread about badges, but I've always loved this Tri Delta necklace, even though I am not a Tri Delta!

There aren't that many GLOs that use monograms as part of their badges right?

For NPC Land:
AGD, AOII, APhi, XO, GPhiB, Theta Phi Alpha.
There was a thread on here from ancient times about the types of badges that there are. There's shields, skulls, monograms, emblems (for example, the KKG key, or the Pi Phi Arrow), letters in a row and I think that's about it. A lot of badges look different, but when it comes down to this type of taxonomy, they are quite similar too.
Lifted from an ancient thread ( http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/ar...p/t-29125.html)

There are so many badges to chose from. Although I have my personal badge that's pearls with diamond points, I'm also very much in love with historic badges. The one I am currently wearing is from 1922, complete with crest guard:

That's beautiful.
And for NIC land the only monograms I'm aware of are LXA, Chi Phi, DU and OX. Don't know if there are more though.

I really like how Theta Chi's has the snake on it as part of their letters and the swords as the rest of it.

Oh.My.Gosh.
*intake of breath* this is lovely; have not seen one like this before. Wow. Don't know that I've seen a crest guard before.
It is delightful to look at all the badges, read everyone's comments, and learn about the various badge origins and shapes. Now I have something to read to the actives at the next Chapter meeting (I try to read a little bit of "history" each time it's my turn to sit as Chapter advisor at the weekly meeting). thanks!

Reading this thread has inspired me to wear my badge more. I have the one with the emerald phi, and I love it!
I absolutely love the historic badges, and that one is gorgeous!!!
I also love that our badge is both a monogram and a symbol all rolled into one.
