rj74, my daughter went Greek at Georgia Southern and her chapter most certainly DID require recs. I know of 2 others there that do and there are probably more.

rj74, we want to share realistic advice, hence the warning to the OP that her goal might be hard to achieve due to her class status and the school she’s attending. In addition to her junior status, it’s the south. You’d best find recs, not only because numerous sororities have a national requirement for them, but because everyone else will have them.

I was quoting from the school's website, so was an accurate statement as far as I knew. I do apologize because I probably shouldn't have said anything about recs at all, being unfamiliar with national org policies. Thank you for clarifying that for me and for OP
no idea if mine nationally requires them or not (also a theta, so tlam!) but it's always better to have recs than not

The Georgia Southern page says "Recommendation letters and references forms are not required to participate in Formal Recruitment at Georgia Southern University."

Virtually EVERY university sorority or Panhellenic page says the very same thing. Understanding exactly what is being said is crucial.

CORRECT: a girl may participate in recruitment without letters of recommendation. If rushing is all you want, no problem. But the point of rush is to get a BID and join an organization, right? That is completely different from simply rushing.

That statement says nothing at all about whether or not recommendation letters are required to get a bid. This is a common misunderstanding. I think a lot of alumnae are extremely frustrated with this misleading language. We fight it every year, but universities continue to do it.

My school says that recommendations are strongly encouraged, so I thought there was a distinction there. They emphasize recommendations a lot, and their website didn't seem to. That was my confusion. Honest mistake, though. Definitely not trying to mislead anyone and sorry if it came across that way. Thankfully it has been clarified for OP.
