Question no NPHC on campus

What happens if a school does not have any NPHC sororities/fraternities on campus? Do you try to pledge a chapter at another school or alumae chapter? Has anyone ever been in this situation? and if so, what are the options?

I was in almost the same predicament. The chapter of XYZ in my school was under a suspension that is not due to be lifted until 2003. I do not suggest this what so ever, but I transfered schools. It was a drastic, desperate move on my part but now I am in a school with an active chapter! Now begins, the real journey!

I know this is going to sound like an cryptic answer, but the answer to that question depends on which organization you want to join. Different orgs have different policies for that sort of thing. Contact the org that you want to join and they can tell you their policy. To find their web address and phone numbers go to: http://www.nphc.org or

Question

Does anyone have an issue with transferring schools for the sole purpose of becoming an undergraduate member of a GLO?

I know someone who also wants to do this, but I told her it was uncool to do something like that. But since I'm not in a GLO, I could have spoken out of turn.

I think that person needs to re-evaluate why s/he wants to become a member. If the desire to become a BCD is there, it should not matter whether it's undergraduate or graduate. The aims and goals of the organization are the same regardless. Additionally, who is to say that if one transfers s/he'll be invitd for membership? What then, will that person contunue transferring until s/he pledges undergrad?

Another thing to think about is how your transfer will look to the sorors on your first campus if you return. That looks like (and to a good extent IS) going over thier heads. I've seen some girls who ended up doing that, not neccesarily to pledge (money and family problems and had to go to school closer to home for a while) who were treated with.. well.. less than open arms. Only you can decide if it's worth it.
