Campus Newspaper Stolen -- U. of Rhode Island

Just another example of the kind of thing that happens somewhere every year, it seems. A problem is that usually the alleged theft of papers tends to call more attention to the article that supposedly causes such incidents:

http://www.eyewitnessnewstv.com/Glob...25639&nav=F2DO

Edited to add:

The article about the fraternity is in the April 21 issue of the student paper. Registration is required to read the full article there, it seems. (The original alleged behavior doesn't seem to be a big scandal, just a relatively minor or moderate bad-judgment alcohol issue, with an apology from the house where the problem allegedly occurred.)

The home page for the paper is

http://www.ramcigar.com

if anyone wants to read it. The paper is "The Good 5 Cent Cigar." (Yes, that's its name.)

I believe Figi's punishment was leaving Greek Week and apologizing to everyone at one of the last events of the week. This wasn't a huge violation, and URI is always very eager to kick off fraternities whenever possible. I don't understand why it'd be worth stealing the paper for this, it's not like they did something that was worthy of them getting in huge amounts of trouble. Greek life has improved tremendously since I graduted in 01.

What's wrong with our newspaper name? It's must more interesting that most other ones.

That FIJI stole these seems to be pure speculation at this point. Also, it may easily have been just a rogue member. This is irresponsible journalism. Broadcasting who they "think" did it is just unethical.

Lightbulb

I am sure this is not the first time it has happened on both sides of the coin.

Media speculation is nothing new of course and if a Fiji did it it is infantile.

As you said, it just makes the problem even worse!

Haven't most colleges and universities put their newpapers online which makes stealing the physical papers rather pointless as the information is still out there?

Nothing wrong with it, just unusual and interesting, as you say.

FIJI is the universal nickname for Phi Gamma Delta if that's what you're asking.

Yeah, but I believe it's Fiji, not Figi, like I've seen so many times on this website.

Sorry, not trying to insult them, I was just exhausted while I was posting. Having a two week old is hard.
