I was just wondering if that type of skirt would be considered over-the-top.
I would not do a skirt style like that. For rush, or for life.

I wouldn't do it either. Save it for a date party or formal. As a rule of thumb, if you have any doubts, it's too close to the danger line and you're safer not wearing it.

You don't want to be remembered as "ballerina girl."

Tulle should be reserved for high school (prom, homecoming) and weddings. That is all.

Ole Miss Panhellenic has a Pinterest page that includes suggestions on what to wear for all of the rounds, including pref. Here is the pref page:

http://pinterest.com/olemisspanhel/preference-round/

You need something that is much more grown up and sophisticated than tulle. It's way too sparkle-fairy princess for a college woman.

Oh goodness I think I completely mislead you all with the picture! The dress I have is not ballerina tulle whatsoever. It has a satin skirt with one layer of the tulle over it for dimension, but it is not short (it's knee length) so it does not poof out like a child's dress would. I think I made you all believe I would actually consider wearing a tutu styled dress! Not at all haha. More than likely I will not wear it for pref, but it would work great for a date function as it is actually a classy styled dress. Again, not a poofy, social faux pas, ballerina/wedding dress!

Also, it is from White House Black Market, so really it's not one of those "out-there crazy" dresses. Thanks for the feedback though!

^^^ I love WHMB! My daughter's first round outfit and 3rd round dress were from WHBM when she rushed last year. I'll take your word for it that it's classy, but I think I'd still save the tulle for a party.

First round: business casual. We have a very short recruitment period with only 4 chapters on campus, so first impressions are extremely important!

Second round: business casual. This is the first night PNMs see the chapter houses and take house tours. It is typically an evening centered around philanthropy and chapter-specific information. Our campus has less than 10% Greek involvement, so most PNMs know very little about Greek life in general. The first round is spent answering those typical questions.

Day 3: Preference ceremony/formal teas. This is cocktail attire. My chapter (as I'm sure others do) prefers PNMs to arrive in cocktail attire that is classy and elegant but shows a bit of her own personality and a splash of fun color.

These are definitely some samples of what I would wear if I could do it all over again! Dressing up for recruitment was so much fun.

For philanthropy round, I've seen a mix of business casual outfits, but I've also seen a few posts on GC/Polyvore/Youtube where nice jeans, a plain blouse, and flats are recommended. I know that some philanthropy nights are combined with skit nights, but what would you recommend for a night solely dedicated to philanthropy?

Exclamation Cold weather rush-wear

My rush week is in January and I'm a bit overwhelmed with finding examples of appropriate attire for cold weather rush-wear. Help! I've seen very few examples and am a bit worried...

Depends on how many rounds you have, how cold it is and how long you will have to be outside, etc. Did you receive any direction about clothing? Or example photos?

For early rounds, I would think nice skinny jeans, boots, a sweater, scarf and warm coat or North Face jacket would be good. Not sure how dressy it gets where you are located. Definitely remember a good warm dress coat, gloves, and a scarf, etc.

You're at Rider, right?

Check their Panhel Pinterest page:

http://www.pinterest.com/RiderGreekLife/

Outfits:

http://www.pinterest.com/RiderGreekL...ference-night/

Out of those outfits, I would avoid the printed pants. They are terrible. I would also skip wearing a blazer or suit for pref,(but fine for earlier parties) and go with a dress. The dresses they have picked are all fine.

The knee high brown boots are probably a really safe bet for at least round of parties.
