If it isn't violating ritual, may I ask whether there is any significance to the jewels (pearls/diamonds) on your pins? And to their placement? My personal opinion - the all pearl white gold (bottom right) is my favorite.

There's no significance to the stones/jewels on our badge - they are simply a decorative option.

It may be in this thread. I originally wondered if it was an ADPi type pin, due to its coloring and shape.

Some images in this thread have disappeared over six years, but when I have a chance I'll take a look. Thanks!

This brochure was published by Burr Patterson and Auld....it may be that these pins shown are the groups that they had made pins for, and the other groups didn't have a contract or liscence to make their pins.

What annoys me is that we cannot make our NM pins or our badges into any form of jewelry other than a pin. Seriously, I'd wear my NM pin as a pendant if I were allowed to do so. Even if I wanted to wear my NM pin as a pin - why would I do so when I'm entitled to wear the badge?

You could "pin" it onto something that you could use as a pendant? Then if wouldn't be "made" into anything over that a pin?

Please do! They took a round wooden drapery "hoop", and cut a circle of burlap that fit into the "frame". Then they added a blue & white diamond shape into the middle, and that's where they put the pledge pin. If I find it (I'm living out of boxes!), I'll post a picture.

It is a lion rampant.

Alpha Delta Pi (briefly Alpha Delta Phi) was never, ever a fraternity. This IS a fraternity named Alpha Delta Phi, and that's why ADPi went to the Pi, instead of a Phi.

It's a lion rampant, as MC said.

I'd like to see a picture (e.g. taken from a Bairds) that shows the unicorn on the pledge pin.

Unless, of course, this unicorn on the pledge pin business is a part of ADPi's ritual, like the Violet Volcano (bet you thought I'd forgotten about that, huh?). In which case I think the chances of seeing it (the unicorn or the original pledge pin) are as good as seeing MultipleAliases and his side kick ricecat! own up to their shenanigans.

The unicorn was briefly used, I'm not sure of the dates, but up until 1913 (I think!). There's a unicorn on the fireplace of Upsilon Chapter, at Washington State University. Darn if I can find a picture of it right now, though!

I did a little looking, and from what found it appears a dragon was used in Adelphian symbolism until 1911, a unicorn from 1911-1915, and a lion from 1915 on. What I haven't been able to find is anything saying when the current Alpha pin was adopted (though it appears to have been prior to 1919, when the current design of the coat of arms was adopted) and whether there were any earlier pledge pins—and if so what they might have looked like.

In any event, the Alpha pin upthread clearly has a lion rampant, not a unicorn (no horn). And not a dragon (no wings).

Thank you, dear Jamestown Cousin!
