1 in 5 Relationships fail due to gaming habits.

link

Guys- ever been yelled at by your girlfriend or wife over spending too much time gaming? If you have, then you might want to take inventory of how much time you spend behind the keyboard or controller, because it could cost you your relationship.

A recent study conducted by UK shopping website MyVoucherCodes revealed that 1 in 5 women have dumped their boyfriends over spending too much time playing games. Also 70 percent of those women surveyed indicated that excessive gaming habits were the cause of tension between partners.

In addition the survey reveals that women are not blameless when it comes to causing arguments in relationships due to excessive behavior. In the survey, 72 percent of men claimed that their girlfriends spent way too much time online surfing the Internet, but only 6 percent of guys indicated that was a reason to break-up with them.

Managing Director for MyVoucherCodes Mark Pearson thinks that both men and women are at fault when it comes to abusing current technology and need to spend more time on their relationships.

While men are more likely to spend their time running recon with, scoring goals against or shooting at people from all over the world, women are just as to blame for the time they spend online for relationship breakups according to the study.” said Pearson.

LOL - I don't like when live-in plays computer games because I can't watch, but if he breaks out the PS3 I'm likely to watch him play for hours. He gets annoyed with that because I'm always yelling "GO LOOK OVER THERE! WHAT'S THAT??? OH MY GOD! LOOK OUT!!!"

So really if anyone is going to break up with anyone, he'd be breaking up with me over my gaming (game watching?) habits.

Also, I'm going to die on the spikes in little big planet and the controller is going to go flying across the room.

I always laugh when I see stories like this. You could say the same thing about gaming that you could say about any hobby or diversion that takes away significantly from the relationship.

LBP is a good couples game!

It's hard getting s/o into most of the games on either PS3 or 360 because most are shooters and she hates 'virtual killing' so we usually spend most of the time hwne we game playing on her Wii.

Hahaha. This is why my brother and I would always hate when my mom watched us playing video games. She would do EXACTLY this, and my brother would respond, "Mom, I think I know where to go more than you do!" LOL

I LOVE THIS GAME!

But my boyfriend refuses to buy it because he claims it's a "chick game."

We play a lot of Wii together - we especially like the new Mario because it's like the old Mario, LOL. I don't mind the shoot'emup games so much but only if they're rated T (like Infamous) - the ones rated M (Call of Duty) are a little too gory for me and they give me nightmares.

We only have one controller for the PS3 right now (we just got it for Christmas - and I have a hard time shelling out $60 for a controller when I know I can get one for the Wii for $20), so we play Little Big Planet in turns. It's going to be so much fun when we have two players though.

Live-in's really nice about it and let's me think I'm helping, LOL.

Live-in and I like it alright but it gets frustrating after a while (hence my comment about dying on the spikes). I'm stuck in the level where you learn how to use the impact explosives and I keep blowing myself up. It's particularly frustrating because I think that's towards the end of the level.

My sack-person is super cute though and I wish I had her in real life.

60 bucks for a controller...when you add in bluetooth capability and rechargable batteries, you get your money's worth.

LBP is like a super advanced version of Mario Brothers that you need a lot of patience for...I wanted to build a level but it's too time consuming for me.

I only get mad if we have plans to be somewhere, I'm ready to go and waiting, and he's still playing. Take a shower, be a grownup, and don't get wrapped up in the game to the point it affects your life.

Also at first I though COD would be too gory for me... I really like it. I just make sure I leave it after awhile, because it is one of those games that gets addictive.

That's just a matter of unwillingness to get with keeping a good schedule.

Time management with gaming is very important especially if it's a separate activity that one will do on their own.

There are times when you can get completely absorbed in a game that hours can go by and you not realize it vs knowing that you have other responsibilities and you need to time yourself accordingly.

What I do like is that newer game systems have timers that people can use to set it so the system will shut down when the alloted time has passed.

I don't have a problem with it, as long as he lets me play too! lol

I do have (guy) friends however who adamently state "If my GF ever asks me to stop playing video games or stop watching porn, i'll drop her like a hot potato." Really?

Have fun with your video games and porn when your a lonely, grouchy old man. Hope they satisfied you better than any woman could

I don't think I would ever ask a man to stop doing either. I might ask him to stop at the moment, so he can sit down and have dinner with me (of course, if it's porn he's watching I suppose I would ask him to wash up first, too), but not stop completely.

Live-in's very good about pausing or stopping the game to eat dinner, and he doesn't rush to eat dinner just so he can get back to the game. But... he likes food more than video games, I guess.

Of course - the porn may creep me out (depending on what he likes to watch) or have other effects on my own love life, it depends on how much it affects me. If it's just a sometimes type of thing, I don't see why not. Just don't admit to me what your freaky ass is watching and/or ask me to go outside my own sexual comfort zone because you saw it in a porno.

Knowing these friends, it's a daily thing. I suspect they watch porn more than they actually have 'relations' (lol) with their gfs. I get it if you are still relatively young. Once you reach 40s even 50s (one of the guys is actually this age....i dont really know him, he's just a friend of a friend) i think it's a little overboard.
