Not a bride but I saw someone mention Dessy in this thread, so I Googled them and I must say I LOVE these dresses.

http://www.dessy.com/wedding-dresses/

They're all very much my style (non-poofy) and if I ever got married, I'd love to wear one.

ETA: And they are very inexpensive. A local bridal shop I know of carries them for less than $300.

Ok, I went back to the bridal shop and I ended up buying a dress - one I hadn't tried on before because I thought to ask her to try on a few more just to see. And I loved a ball gown of all things. And it just so happened they had discontinued the dress so if I wanted it, I would have to buy the sample off the rack (it fit me almost perfectly already) and soon! My mom cried when I put it on (before I decided I liked it) and when I e-mailed my FILs pics of it, they loved it and said they thought J would like it too. So, drumroll please.......

And since it was off the rack, 10% off of the price, so with tax the total came to $1144. It's another 2Be dress (no wonder I liked it.) When my mom asked me if J would like the other 2Be dress (the ruffled bottom one) I realized he probably wouldn't love it as much as I did, as he would most likely prefer something more traditional, and I also realized that skirt was a little trendy and no offense to anyone here, but I didn't want to look back at my dress like it was some 80s hideous dress with lace and puffy sleeves, ya know? This dress is so classic. Detachable sash in the back, buttons up the back with a zipper also and though it's large in the skirt, it doesn't look too big to me. The back will be larger though when bustled - American or French...?
And here is the bridesmaid dress I'm thinking about:

I like that it has a similar sash around the waist (which I would change to light pink) and of course they're both duchess satin. I would also hike up that skirt to the knees.

They're storing the dress for me for free indefinitely so when I'm ready to have it altered (haha, next year!) then I just go back about 6 weeks before the wedding. Their dresses are all insured also so I'm safe there. And this way, my pets (or I) can't get to it and mess it up! When the FILs come down, I told them we could go "visit my dress." I made sure to ask if I could just come in and try it on and they were like, sure!

Let me know what y'all think!

The dress is gorgeous - not too poufy (though I love me some pouf, I am in the distinct minority) and you could actually wear that bridesmaid dress again! Wow! You done good!

I am almost contemplating getting one of the bridesmaid dresses myself, I really like it! And I like me some pouf too Though, I can't imagine putting another petticoat underneath that as the saleswoman told me some brides do. This dress is just the right amount of pouf I think, and I like how the back comes to a small point, makes me feel like I'm wearing a dress from Scarlet O'Hara's time or something

I love the dress you purchased SthrnZeta! I think it fits you perfectly too and I really love the thick band at the waist.

I thought I had posted a picture of my dress, but it looks like I only posted the model pic - which, the link is now broken.

and of course - my sisters singing to me at the reception....

I had initially said I didnt want a strapless dress, but god forbid if I could find one that I liked. This dress came with optional spaghetti straps, but I decided to not bother with them.

You could get the bridsmaid's dress for yourself and wear it to the rehersal! See if anyone notices the next day...
